We show how to adapt a 0-f self-referencing technique to provide a single shot absolute Carrier Envelope Phase (CEP) measurement by using the CEP reference provided by difference frequency generation (DFG) between the spectral wings of the fundamental pulse. Usually, the beat between the input pulse and the DFG signal then provides feedback with which to stabilize the CEP slip in a pulse train. However, with a simple extension we can get a single shot absolute CEP measurement. Success relies on having well characterized input pulses, and the use of accurate propagation models through the nonlinear crystal -- these enable us to construct a mapping between the experimental measurement and the CEP of the optical pulse.

The measurement and stabilization of the carrier-envelope offset frequency $f_{textrm{CEO}}$ via self-referencing is paramount for optical frequency comb generation which has revolutionized precision frequency metrology, spectroscopy, and optical clo cks. Over the past decade, the development of chip-scale platforms has enabled compact integrated waveguides for supercontinuum generation. However, there is a critical need for an on-chip self-referencing system that is adaptive to different pump wavelengths, requires low pulse energy, and does not require complicated processing. Here, we demonstrate efficient carrier-envelope offset frequency $f_{textrm{CEO}}$ stabilization of a modelocked laser with only 107 pJ of pulse energy via self-referencing in an integrated lithium niobate waveguide. We realize an $f$-$2f$ interferometer through second-harmonic generation and subsequent supercontinuum generation in a single dispersion-engineered waveguide with a stabilization performance equivalent to a conventional off-chip module. The $f_{textrm{CEO}}$ beatnote is measured over a pump wavelength range of 70 nm. We theoretically investigate our system using a single nonlinear envelope equation with contributions from both second- and third-order nonlinearities. Our modeling reveals rich ultrabroadband nonlinear dynamics and confirms that the initial second harmonic generation followed by supercontinuum generation with the remaining pump is responsible for the generation of a strong $f_{textrm{CEO}}$ signal as compared to a traditional $f$-$2f$ interferometer. Our technology provides a highly-simplified system that is robust, low cost, and adaptable for precision metrology for use outside a research laboratory.
We phase-coherently measure the frequency of continuous-wave (CW) laser light by use of optical-phase modulation and f-2f nonlinear interferometry. Periodic electro-optic modulation (EOM) transforms the CW laser into a continuous train of picosecond optical pulses. Subsequent nonlinear-fiber broadening of this EOM frequency comb produces a supercontinuum with 160 THz of bandwidth. A critical intermediate step is optical filtering of the EOM comb to reduce electronic-noise-induced decoherence of the supercontinuum. Applying f-2f self-referencing with the supercontinuum yields the carrier-envelope offset frequency of the EOM comb, which is precisely the difference of the CW laser frequency and an exact integer multiple of the EOM pulse repetition rate. Here we demonstrate absolute optical frequency metrology and synthesis applications of the self-referenced CW laser with <5E-14 fractional accuracy and stability.

A shaped doublet pump pulse is proposed for simultaneous octave-spanning soliton Kerr frequency comb generation and second-harmonic conversion in a single microresonator. The temporal soliton in the cavity is trapped atop a doublet pulse pedestal, re sulting in a greatly expanded soliton region compared to that with a general Gaussian pulse pump. The possibility of single-microresonator comb self-referencing in a single silicon nitride microring, which can facilitate compact on-chip optical clocks, is demonstrated via simulation.

The process $e^+ e^- to D_{s}^{*+} D_{s0}^{*-}(2317)+c.c.$ is observed for the first time with the data sample of 567~pb$^{-1}$ collected with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII collider at a center-of-mass energy $sqrt{s} = 4.6$~GeV. The st atistical significance of the $D_{s0}^{*-}(2317)$ signal is $5.8sigma$ and the mass is measured to be ($2318.3pm 1.2pm 1.2$)~MeV/$c^{2}$. The absolute branching fraction $mathcal{B}(D_{s0}^{*-}(2317)to pi^0 D_{s}^{-})$ is measured as $1.00^{+0.00}_{-0.14}pm 0.14$ for the first time. The uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively.
In this work we demonstrate the generation of two intense, ultrafast laser pulses that allow a controlled interferometric measurement of higher harmonic generation pulses with 12.8 attoseconds in resolution (half the atomic unit of time) and a precis ion as low as 680 zeptoseconds ($10^{-21}$ seconds). We create two replicas of a driving femtosecond pulse which share the same optical path except at the focus where they converge to two foci. An attosecond pulse train emerges from each focus through the process of HHG. The two attosecond pulse trains from each focus interfere in the far field producing a clear interference pattern in the XUV region. By controlling the relative optical phase between the two driving laser pulses we are able to actively influence the delay between the pulses and are able to perform very stable and precise pump-probe experiments. Because of the phase operation occurs across the entire spatial profile we effectively create two indistinguishable intense laser pulses or a common path interferometer for attosecond pulses. Commonality across the two beams means that they are extremely stable to environmental and mechanical fluctuations up to a Rayleigh range from the focus. In our opinion this represents an ideal source for homodyne and heterodyne spectroscopic measurements with sub-attosecond precision.
