In order to profit from the high granularity of the calorimeters proposed for the ILC that are suitable for the Particle Flow Approach, specialised clustering algorithms have to be developped. GARLIC is such an algorithm with the goal to find and identify pointing photons in the electromagnetic calorimeter. This would help to improve the energy resolution on the photon contribution in jets.

The precise measurement of hadronic jet energy is crucial to maximise the physics reach of a future Linear Collider. An important ingredient required to achieve this is the efficient identification of photons within hadronic showers. One configuratio n of the ILD detector concept employs a highly granular silicon-tungsten sampling calorimeter to identify and measure photons, and the GARLIC algorithm described in this paper has been developed to identify photons in such a calorimeter. We describe the algorithm and characterise its performance using events fully simulated in a model of the ILD detector.
We report on a study of the physics potential of linear $e^+e^-$ colliders. Although a linear collider (LC) would support a broad physics program, we focus on the contributions that could help elucidate the origin of electroweak symmetry breaking. Ma ny extensions of the standard model have a decoupling limit, with a Higgs boson similar to the standard one and other, higher-mass states. Mindful of such possibilities, we survey the physics of a (nearly) standard Higgs boson, as a function of its mass. We also review how measurements from an LC could help verify several well-motivated extensions of the standard model. For supersymmetry, we compare the strengths of an LC with the LHC. Also, assuming the lightest superpartner explains the missing dark matter in the universe, we examine other places to search for a signal of supersymmetry. We compare the signatures of several scenarios with extra spatial dimensions. We also explore the possibility that the Higgs is a composite, concentrating on models that (unlike technicolor) have a Higgs boson with mass of a few hundred GeV or less. Where appropriate, we mention the importance of high luminosity, for example to measure branching ratios of the Higgs, and the importance of multi-TeV energies, for example to explore the full spectrum of superpartners.

The SLAC Linear Collider has been colliding a polarized electron beam with an unpolarized positron beam at the Z^0 resonance for the SLD experiment since 1992. An electron beam polarization of close to 80% has been achieved for the experiment at lumi nosities up to 8x10^29 cm^-2 s^-1. This is the worlds first and only linear collider, and is a successful prototype for the next generation of high energy electron linear colliders. This paper discusses polarized beam operation for the SLC, and includes aspects of the polarized source, spin transport and polarimetry. Presented at the 12th International Symposium on High Energy Spin Physics held at Amsterdam, The Netherlands September 10-14, 1996.

The rf distribution system for the linear collider requires stable x-band(11.424GHz) rf phase signal over 25km length. In order to realize the distribution system, a fiber optic link using a phase stabilized optical fiber was tested. The phase stabil ized optical fiber has been employed at LEP, KEKB, etc.. This paper describes the hardware system and result of the preliminary test of the feed back system for stabilization of the phase change.
In order to fully exploit the physics potential of the future high energy e+e- linear collider, a Vertex Tracker able to provide particle track extrapolation with very high resolution is needed. Hybrid Si pixel sensors are an attractive technology du e to their fast read-out capabilities and radiation hardness. A novel pixel detector layout with interleaved cells has been developed to improve the single point resolution. Results of the characterisation of the first processed prototypes by electrostatic measurements and charge collection studies are discussed.
