We present first results from a multi-object spectroscopy campaign in IC2602, the Hyades, the Pleiades, and the Coma cluster using VLT/FLAMES. We analysed the data for radial velocity, rotational velocity, and H-alpha activity. Here, we highlight three aspects of this study in the context of rotational braking and the rotation-activity relationship among low mass stars. Finally we discuss the cluster membership of sources in IC2602.

We compute rotating 1D stellar evolution models that include a modified temperature gradient in convection zones and criterion for convective instability inspired by rotating 3D hydrodynamical simulations performed with the MUSIC code. In those 3D si mulations we found that convective properties strongly depend on the Solberg-H{o}iland criterion for stability. We therefore incorporated this into 1D stellar evolution models by replacing the usual Schwarzschild criterion for stability and also modifying the temperature gradient in convection zones. We computed a grid of 1D models between 0.55 and 1.2 stellar masses from the pre-main sequence to the end of main sequence in order to study the problem of lithium depletion in low-mass main sequence stars. This is an ideal test case because many of those stars are born as fast rotators and the rate of lithium depletion is very sensitive to the changes in the stellar structure. Additionally, observations show a correlation between slow rotation and lithium depletion, contrary to expectations from standard models of rotationally driven mixing. By suppressing convection, and therefore decreasing the temperature at the base of the convective envelope, lithium burning is strongly quenched in our rapidly rotating models to an extent sufficient to account for the lithium spread observed in young open clusters.
Star clusters appear to be the ideal environment for the assembly of neutron star-neutron star (NS-NS) and black hole-neutron star (BH-NS) binaries. These binaries are among the most interesting astrophysical objects, being potential sources of gravi tational waves (GWs) and gamma-ray bursts. We use for the first time high-precision N-body simulations of young massive and open clusters to study the origin and dynamical evolution of NSs, within clusters with different initial masses, metallicities, primordial binary fractions, and prescriptions for the compact object natal kicks at birth. We find that the radial profile of NSs is shaped by the BH content of the cluster, which partially quenches the NS segregation due to the BH-burning process. This leaves most of the NSs out of the densest cluster regions, where NS-NS and BH-NS binaries could potentially form. Due to a large velocity kick that they receive at birth, most of the NSs escape the host clusters, with the bulk of their retained population made up of NSs of $sim 1.3$ M$_odot$ coming from the electron-capture supernova process. The details of the primordial binary fraction and pairing can smear out this trend. Finally, we find that a subset of our models produce NS-NS mergers, leading to a rate of $sim 0.01$--$0.1$ Gpc$^{-3}$ yr$^{-1}$ in the local Universe, and compute an upper limit of $sim 3times 10^{-2}$--$3times 10^{-3}$ Gpc$^{-3}$ yr$^{-1}$ for the BH-NS merger rate. Our estimates are several orders of magnitude smaller than the current empirical merger rate from LIGO/Virgo, in agreement with the recent rate estimates for old globular clusters.

Open clusters (OC) of 1-3 Gyr age contain intermediate-to-low-mass stars in evolutionary phases of multiple relevance to understanding Li evolution. Stars leaving the main sequence (MS) from the hot side of the Lithium dip (LD) at a fixed age can inc lude a range of mass, varying degrees of core degeneracy, and helium ignition under quiescent or flash conditions. An ongoing survey of a significant sample of stars from the giant branch to below the LD in key open clusters has revealed patterns that supply critical clues to the underlying source of Li variation among stars of differing mass and age. While the LD is well established in OC of this age, stars on the hot side of the LD can exhibit Li ranging from the apparent primordial cluster value to upper limits similar to those found at the LD center, despite occupying the same region of the color-magnitude diagram (CMD). Stars on the first-ascent giant branch show a dramatic decline in measurable Li that correlates strongly with increasing age and reduced turnoff mass. We discuss how these trends can be explained in the context of the existence of the LD itself and the temporal evolution of individual stars.

We report the discovery of a trend of increasing barium abundance with decreasing age for a large sample of Galactic open clusters. The observed pattern of [Ba/Fe] vs. age can be reproduced with a Galactic chemical evolution model only assuming a hig her Ba yield from the $s$-process in low-mass stars than the average one suggested by parametrized models of neutron-capture nucleosynthesis. We show that this is possible in a scenario where the efficiency of the extra-mixing processes producing the neutron source $^{13}$C is anti-correlated with the initial mass, with a larger efficiency for lower masses. This is similar to the known trend of extended mixing episodes acting in H-rich layers and might suggest a common physical mechanism.

Observations of young open clusters show a bimodal distribution of stellar rotation. Sun-like stars in those clusters group into two main sub-populations of fast and slow rotators. Beyond an age of about 500 Myrs, the two populations converge towards a single peak distribution of angular velocities. I argue that this evolution of stellar rotation in open clusters results from a brief episode of enhanced angular momentum loss by strong stellar wind during the early evolution of rapidly rotating Sun-like stars
