The paper studies a class of three user Gaussian interference channels. A new layered lattice coding scheme is introduced as a transmission strategy. The use of lattice codes allows for an alignment of the interference observed at each receiver. The layered lattice coding is shown to achieve more than one degree of freedom for a class of interference channels and also achieves rates which are better than the rates obtained using the Han-Kobayashi coding scheme.
This paper studies a symmetric K user Gaussian interference channel with K transmitters and K receivers. A very strong interference regime is derived for this channel setup. A very strong interference regime is one where the capacity region of the in
terference channel is the same as the capacity region of the channel with no interference. In this regime, the interference can be perfectly canceled by all the receivers without incurring any rate penalties. A very strong interference condition for an example symmetric K user deterministic interference channel is also presented.
A rateless code-i.e., a rate-compatible family of codes-has the property that codewords of the higher rate codes are prefixes of those of the lower rate ones. A perfect family of such codes is one in which each of the codes in the family is capacity-
achieving. We show by construction that perfect rateless codes with low-complexity decoding algorithms exist for additive white Gaussian noise channels. Our construction involves the use of layered encoding and successive decoding, together with repetition using time-varying layer weights. As an illustration of our framework, we design a practical three-rate code family. We further construct rich sets of near-perfect rateless codes within our architecture that require either significantly fewer layers or lower complexity than their perfect counterparts. Variations of the basic construction are also developed, including one for time-varying channels in which there is no a priori stochastic model.
A rateless transmission architecture is developed for communication over Gaussian intersymbol interference channels, based on the concept of super-Nyquist (SNQ) signaling. In such systems, the signaling rate is chosen significantly higher than the Ny
quist rate of the system. We show that such signaling, when used in conjunction with good off-the-shelf base codes, simple linear redundancy, and minimum mean-square error decision feedback equalization, results in capacity-approaching, low-complexity rateless codes for the time-varying intersymbol-interference channel. Constructions for both single-input / single-output (SISO) and multi-input / multi-output (MIMO) ISI channels are developed.
In this paper, we focus on the two-user Gaussian interference channel (GIC), and study the Han-Kobayashi (HK) coding/decoding strategy with the objective of designing low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes. A code optimization algorithm is proposed wh
ich adopts a random perturbation technique via tracking the average mutual information. The degree distribution optimization and convergence threshold computation are carried out for strong and weak interference channels, employing binary phase-shift keying (BPSK). Under strong interference, it is observed that optimized codes operate close to the capacity boundary. For the case of weak interference, it is shown that via the newly designed codes, a nontrivial rate pair is achievable, which is not attainable by single user codes with time-sharing. Performance of the designed LDPC codes are also studied for finite block lengths through simulations of specific codes picked from the optimized degree distributions.
In this paper, a class of broadcast interference channels (BIC) is investigated, where one of the two broadcast receivers is subject to interference coming from a point-to-point transmission. For a general discrete memoryless broadcast interference c
hannel (DM-BIC), an achievable scheme based on message splitting, superposition and binning is proposed and a concise representation of the corresponding achievable rate region R is obtained. Two partial-order broadcast conditions interference-oblivious less noisy and interference-cognizant less noisy are defined, thereby extending the usual less noisy condition for a regular broadcast channel by taking interference into account. Under these conditions, a reduced form of R is shown to be equivalent to a rate region based on a simpler scheme, where the broadcast transmitter uses only superposition. Furthermore, if interference is strong for the interference-oblivious less noisy DM-BIC, the capacity region is given by the aforementioned two equivalent rate regions. For a Gaussian broadcast interference channel (GBIC), channel parameters are categorized into three regimes. For the first two regimes, which are closely related to the two partial-order broadcast conditions, achievable rate regions are derived by specializing the corresponding achievable schemes of DM-BICs with Gaussian input distributions. The entropy power inequality (EPI) based outer bounds are obtained by combining bounding techniques for a Gaussian broadcast channel (GBC) and a Gaussian interference channel (GIC). These inner and outer bounds lead to either exact or approximate characterizations of capacity regions and sum capacity under various conditions. For the remaining complementing regime, inner and outer bounds are also provided.
