We have investigated the tunable lateral shift and polarization beam splitting of the transmitted light beam through electro-optic crystals, based on the Pockels effect. The positive and negative lateral shifts could be easily controlled by adjusting the permittivity tensor, which is modulated by the external applied electric field. An alternative way to realize the polarization beam splitter was also proposed by the polarization-dependent lateral shifts. Numerical simulations for Gaussian-shaped incident beam have demonstrated the above theoretical results obtained by stationary phase method. All these phenomena have potential applications in optical devices.

We investigate the Goos-H{a}nchen (GH) shifts of partially coherent fields (PCFs) by using the theory of coherence. We derive a formal expression for the GH shifts of PCFs in terms of Mercers expansion, and then clearly demonstrate the dependence of the GH shift of each mode of PCFs on spatial coherence and beam width. We discuss the effect of spatial coherence on the resultant GH shifts, especially for the cases near the critical angles, such as totally reflection angle.
We demonstrated a tunable temporal gap based on simultaneous fast and slow light in electro-optic photonic crystals. The light experiences an anomalous dispersion near the transmission center and a normal dispersion away from the center, where it can be accelerated and slowed down, respectively. We also obtained the switch between fast and slow light by adjusting the external electric filed. The observed largest temporal gap is 541 ps, which is crucial in practical event operation inside the gap. The results offer a new solution for temporal cloak.

A fast, switchable electro-optic radial polarization retarder (EO-RPR) fabricated using the electro-optic ceramic PMN-PT is presented. This EO-RPR is useful for fast, switchable generation of pure cylindrical vector beam. When used together with a pa ir of half-wave plates, the EO-RPR can change circularly polarized light into any cylindrical vector beam of interest such as radially or azimuthally polarized light. Radially and azimuthally polarized light with purities greater than 95% are generated experimentally. The advantages of using EO-RPR include fast response times, low driving voltage and transparency in a wide spectral range (500 -7000 nm).

We demonstrate, for the first time, a scheme that generates radially-polarized light using Goos-Hanchen shift of a cylindrically symmetric Total Internal Reflection. It allows ultra-broadband radial polarization conversion for wavelengths differing >1 micron.
The typical bulk model describing 2D topological insulators (TI) consists of two types of spin-orbit terms, the so-called Dirac term which induces out-of plane spin polarization and the Rashba term which induces in-plane spin polarization. We show th at for some parameters of the Fermi energy, the beam splitter device built on 2D TIs can achieve higher in-plane spin polarization than one built on materials described by the Rashba model itself. Further, due to high tunability of the electron density and the asymmetry of the quantum well, spin polarization in different directions can be obtained. While in the normal (topologically trivial) regime the in-plane spin polarization would dominate, in the inverted regime the out-of-plane polarization is more significant not only in the band gap but also for small Fermi energies above the gap. Further, we suggest a double beam splitter scheme, to measure in-plane spin current all electrically. Although we consider here as an example HgTe/CdTe quantum wells, this scheme could be also promising for InAs/GaSb QWs where the in- and out-of-plane polarization could be achieved in a single device.
