We derive the Schroedinger equation for a spinless charged particle constrained to a curved surface with electric and magnetics fields applied. The particle is confined on the surface using a thin-layer procedure, giving rise to the well-known geometric potential. The electric and magnetic fields are included via the four-potential. We find that there is no coupling between the fields and the surface curvature and that, with a proper choice of the gauge, the surface and transverse dynamics are exactly separable. Finally, the Hamiltonian for the cylinder, sphere and torus are analytically derived.

We discuss various descriptions of a quantum particle on noncommutative space in a (possibly non-constant) magnetic field. We have tried to present the basic facts in a unified and synthetic manner, and to clarify the relationship between various app roaches and results that are scattered in the literature.
Optical properties of graphene are explored by using the generalized tight-binding model. The main features of spectral structures, the form, frequency, number and intensity, are greatly enriched by the complex relationship among the interlayer atomi c interactions, the magnetic quantization and the Coulomb potential energy. Absorption spectra have the shoulders, asymmetric peaks and logarithmic peaks, coming from the band-edge states of parabolic dispersions, the constant-energy loops and the saddle points, respectively. The initial forbidden excitation region is only revealed in even-layer AA stacking systems. Optical gaps and special structures can be generated by an electric field. The delta-function-like structures in magneto-optical spectra, which present the single, twin and double peaks, are associated with the symmetric, asymmetric and splitting Landau-level energy spectra, respectively. The single peaks due to the non-tilted Dirac cones exhibit the nearly uniform intensity. The AAB stacking possesses more absorption structures, compared to the other stackings. The diverse magneto-optical selection rules are mainly determined by the well-behaved, perturbed and undefined Landau modes. The frequent anti-crossings in the magnetic- and electric-field-dependent energy spectra lead to the increase of absorption peaks and the reduced intensities. Part of theoretical calculations are consistent with the experimental measurements, and the others need further detailed examinations.
Electron and nuclear spins of diamond nitrogen-vacancy (NV) centers are good candidates for quantum information processing as they have long coherence time and can be initialized and read out optically. However, creating a large number of coherently coupled and individually addressable NV centers for quantum computing has been a big challenge. Here we propose methods to use high-density diamond NV centers coupled by spin-spin interaction with an average separation on the order of 10 nm for quantum computing. We propose to use a strain gradient to encode the position information of each NV center in the energy level of its excited electron orbital state, which causes a shift of its optical transition frequency. With such strain encoding, more than 100 closely-packed NV centers below optical diffraction limit can be read out individually by resonant optical excitation. A magnetic gradient will be used to shift the electron spin resonant (ESR) frequencies of NV centers. Therefore, the spin state of each NV center can be individually manipulated and different NV centers can be selectively coupled. A universal set of quantum operations for two-qubit and three-qubit system is introduced by careful design of external drives. Moreover, entangled states with multiple qubits can be created by this protocol, which is a major step towards quantum information processing with solid-state spins.
We present a protocol to achieve double quantum magnetometry at large static magnetic fields. This is a regime where sensitive sample parameters, such as the chemical shift, get enhanced facilitating their characterization. In particular, our method delivers two-tone stroboscopic radiation patterns with modulated Rabi frequencies to achieve larger spectral signals. Furthermore, it does not introduce inhomogeneous broadening in the sample spectrum preventing signal misinterpretation. Moreover, our protocol is designed to work under realistic conditions such as the presence of moderate microwave power and errors on the radiation fields. Albeit we particularise to nitrogen vacancy centers, our protocol is general, thus applicable to distinct quantum sensors.
Engineered quantum systems enabling novel capabilities for communication, computation, and sensing have blossomed in the last decade. Architectures benefiting from combining distinct and complementary physical quantum systems have emerged as promisin g platforms for developing quantum technologies. A new class of hybrid quantum systems based on collective spin excitations in ferromagnetic materials has led to the diverse set of experimental platforms which are outlined in this review article. The coherent interaction between microwave cavity modes and collective spin-wave modes is presented as the backbone of the development of more complex hybrid quantum systems. Indeed, quanta of excitation of the spin-wave modes, called magnons, can also interact coherently with optical photons, phonons, and superconducting qubits in the fields of cavity optomagnonics, cavity magnomechanics, and quantum magnonics, respectively. Notably, quantum magnonics provides a promising platform for performing quantum optics experiments in magnetically-ordered solid-state systems. Applications of hybrid quantum systems based on magnonics for quantum information processing and quantum sensing are also outlined briefly.
