We have selected stress-annealed nanocrystalline Fe-based ribbons for ferromagnetic/copper/ferromagnetic sensors exhibiting high magneto-impedance ratio. Longitudinal magneto-impedance reaches 400% at 60 kHz and longitudinal magneto-resistance increases up to 1300% around 200 kHz.

High entropy oxides (HEOs) are single phase solid solutions consisting of 5 or more cations in approximately equiatomic proportions. In this study, we show reversible control of optical properties in a rare-earth (RE) based HEO-(Ce$_{0.2}$La$_{0.2}$P r$_{0.2}$Sm$_{0.2}$Y$_{0.2}$)O$_{2-delta}$ and subsequently utilize a combination of spectroscopic techniques to derive the features of the electronic band structure underpinning the observed optical phenomena. Heat treatment of the HEO under vacuum atmosphere followed by reheat-treatment in air results in a reversible change of the band gap energy, from 1.9 eV to 2.5 eV. The finding is consistent with the reversible changes in the oxidation state and related $f$-orbital occupancy of Pr. However, no pertinent changes in the phase composition or crystal structure is observed upon the vacuum heat treatment. Further annealing of this HEO under H$_2$ atmosphere, followed by reheat-treatment in air, results in even larger but still reversible change of the band gap energy from 1.9 eV to 3.2 eV. This is accompanied by a disorder-order type crystal structure transition and changes in the O 2$p$-RE 5$d$ hybridization evidenced from X-ray absorption near edge spectra (XANES). The O $K$ and RE ${M_{4,5}}$/$L_{3}$ XANES indicate that the presence of Ce and Pr (in 3+/4+) state leads to the formation of intermediate 4$f$ energy levels between the O 2$p$ and RE 5$d$ gap in HEO. It is concluded that heat treatment under reducing/oxidizing atmospheres affects these intermediate levels, thus, offering the possibility to tune the band gap energy in HEO.
Achieving multiferroic two-dimensional (2D) materials should enable numerous functionalities in nanoscale devices. Until now, however, predicted 2D multiferroics are very few and with coexisting yet only loosely coupled (type-I) ferroelectricity and magnetism. Here, a type-II multiferroic MXene Hf$_{2}$VC$_{2}$F$_{2}$ monolayer is identified, where ferroelectricity originates directly from its magnetism. The noncollinear Y-type spin order generates a polarization perpendicular to the spin helical plane. Remarkably, the multiferroic transition is estimated to occur above room temperature. Our investigation should open the door to a new branch of 2D materials for pursuit of intrinsically strong magnetoelectricity.

A mechanical equivalent system is introduced to mimic the behavior of multilayer structures with diffusive spin transport. The analogy allows one to use existing mechanical intuition to predict the influence of various parameters on spin torques and spin-dependent magnetoresistance. In particular, it provides an understanding of the sign-changing behavior of spin torque in asymmetric F/N/F spin valves. It further helps to uncover the physical reason behind the singular behavior of spin magnetoresistance in devices with ultra-thin N-layers.
Lorentz-violating type-II nodal lines exhibit attracting physical properties and have been hot discussed currently. However, their investigations have been mostly limited in nonmagnetic system because of lacking ideal spin-polarized candidates with c lean type-II nodal line states. Here, for the first time, we report the family of X2YZ4 (X=K, Cs, Rb, Y=Cr, Cu, Z=Cl, F) compounds are such ideal candidate materials by using the member of K2CuF4 as an example. We show the material is a ferromagnetic half-metal with weak anisotropy, which host fully spin-polarized conducting electrons. In the conducting spin channel, the band crossing form a pair of type-II nodal lines, protected by mirror symmetry. These type-II nodal lines are different with former proposed examples because they have a 100% spin polarization. In addition, we also show the material can realize switchable topological states, which can be easily controlled by external magnetic field. It is noticed that, the material: i) is stable and can be synthesized in experiments; ii) has clear magnetic structure; and iii) manifests clean type-II nodal line state and clear drumhead surface states. Therefore, the proposed X2YZ4 compounds are expected to be an excellent platform to investigate the novel physical properties of both type-II nodal line states with complete
We have synthesized a new crystallographically ordered quaternary Heusler alloy, MnNiCuSb. The crystal structure of the alloy has been determined by Rietveld refinement of the powder x-ray diffraction data. This alloy crystallizes in the LiMgPdSb typ e structure with F-43m space group. MnNiCuSb is a ferromagnet with a high TC ~ 690K and magnetic moment of 3.85MuB/f.u. Besides this we have also studied two other off-stoichiometric compositions; one Cu rich and the other Ni rich (MnNi0.9Cu1.1Sb and MnNi1.1Cu0.9Sb) which are also ferromagnets. It must be stressed that MnNiCuSb is one of the very few known, non-Fe containing quaternary Heusler alloys with 1: 1: 1: 1 composition.
