We investigate the doping of a geometrically frustrated spin ladder with static holes by a complementary approach using exact diagonalization and quantum dimers. Results for thermodynamic properties, the singlet density of states, the hole-binding energy and the spin correlations will be presented. For the undoped systems the ground state is non-degenerate, with translationally invariant nearest-neighbor spin correlations. In the doped case, we find that static holes polarize their vicinity by a localization of singlets in order to reduce the frustration. This polarization induces short range repulsive forces between two holes and an oscillatory behavior of the long range two-hole energy. For most quantities investigated, we find very good agreement between the quantum dimer approach and the results from exact diagonalization.
The layered FeTe2O5Cl compound was studied by specific-heat, muon spin relaxation, nuclear magnetic resonance, dielectric, as well as neutron and synchrotron x-ray diffraction measurements, and the results were compared to isostructural FeTe2O5Br. We
We report neutron scattering studies of the spin correlations of the geometrically frustrated pyrochlore Tb2Mo2O7 using single crystal samples. This material undergoes a spin-freezing transition below Tg~24 K, similar to Y2Mo2O7, and has little appar
The nature of the low temperature ground state of the pyrochlore compound Tb2Ti2O7 remains a puzzling issue. Dynamic fluctuations and short-range correlations persist down to 50 mK, as evidenced by microscopic probes. In parallel, magnetization measu
Frustrated systems are ubiquitous and interesting because their behavior is difficult to predict. Magnetism offers extreme examples in the form of spin lattices where all interactions between spins cannot be simultaneously satisfied. Such geometrical
