We report on the results of our calculation of meson correlators in a finite volume. The calculation is carried out in the quenched approximation near the chiral limit (down to Mq = 2.6 MeV) using the overlap fermion. For these small quark masses, th e scalar and pseudo-scalar correlators are well approximated with a few hundred eigenmodes. The results for both connected and disconnected correlators are compared with the theoretical predictions of quenched chiral perturbation theory.

We investigate the effects of low-lying fermion modes on the QCD partition function in the epsilon-regime. With the overlap Dirac operator we calculate several tens of low-lying fermion eigenvalues on the quenched lattice. By partially incorporating the fermion determinant through the truncated determinant approximation, we calculate the partition function and other related quantities for Nf = 1 and compare them with the theoretical predictions obtained by Leutwyler and Smilga.

Lattice quantum chromodynamics provides first principles calculations for hadrons containing heavy quarks -- charm and bottom quarks. Their mass spectra, decay rates, and some hadronic matrix elements can be calculated on the lattice in a model indep endent manner. In this review, we introduce the effective theories that treat heavy quarks on the lattice. We summarize results on the heavy quarkonium spectrum, which verify the validity of the effective theory approach. We then discuss applications to $B$ physics, which is the main target of the lattice theory of heavy quarks. We review progress in lattice calculations of the $B$ meson decay constant, the $B$ parameter, semi-leptonic decay form factors, and other important quantities.)
