A total of 28 young nearby stars (ages $leq 60$,Myr) have been observed in the K$_{rm s}$-band with the adaptive optics imager Naos-Conica of the Very Large Telescope at the Paranal Observatory in Chile. Among the targets are ten visual binaries and one triple system at distances between 10 and 130 pc, all previously known. During a first observing epoch a total of 20 faint stellar or sub-stellar companion-candidates were detected around seven of the targets. These fields, as well as most of the stellar binaries, were re-observed with the same instrument during a second epoch, about one year later. We present the astrometric observations of all binaries. Their analysis revealed that all stellar binaries are co-moving. In two cases (HD 119022 AB and FG Aqr B/C) indications for significant orbital motions were found. However, all sub-stellar companion-candidates turned out to be non-moving background objects except PZ Tel which is part of this project but whose results were published elsewhere. Detection limits were determined for all targets, and limiting masses were derived adopting three different age values; they turn out to be less than 10 Jupiter masses in most cases, well below the brown dwarf mass range. The fraction of stellar multiplicity and of the sub-stellar companion occurrence in the star forming regions in Chamaeleon are compared to the statistics of our search, and possible reasons for the observed differences are discussed.
We try to constrain the nuclear Equation-of-State (EoS) and supernova ejecta models by observations of young neutron stars in our galactic neighbourhood. There are seven thermally emitting isolated neutron stars known from X-ray and optical observati ons, the so-called Magnificent Seven, which are young (few Myrs), nearby (few hundred pc), and radio-quiet with blackbody-like X-ray spectra, so that - by observing their surface - we can determine their luminosity, distance, and temperature, hence, their radius. We also see the possibility to determine their current neutron star masses and the masses of their progenitor stars by studying their origin. It is even feasible to find the neutron star which was born in the supernova, from which those Fe60 atoms were ejected, which were recently found in the Earth crust.

At a distance of about 130 pc, the Corona Australis molecular cloud complex is one of the nearest regions with ongoing and/or recent star formation. It is a region with highly variable extinction of up to AV~45 mag, containing, at its core, the Coron et protostar cluster. There are now 55 known optically detected members, starting at late B spectral types. At the opposite end of the mass spectrum, there are two confirmed brown dwarf members and seven more candidate brown dwarfs. The CrA region has been most widely surveyed at infrared wavelengths, in X-rays, and in the millimeter continuum, while follow-up observations from centimeter radio to X-rays have focused on the Coronet cluster.
