We generalise the standard, flat p-brane solutions sourced by a dilaton and a form field, by taking the worldvolume to be a curved Einstein space, such as (anti-)de Sitter space. Our method is based on reducing the p-branes to domain walls and then a llowing these domain walls to be curved. For de Sitter worldvolumes this extends some recently constructed warped de Sitter non-compactifications. We restrict our analysis to solutions that possess scaling behavior and demonstrate that these scaling solutions are near-horizon limits of a more general solution. Finally, our framework can equally be used for spacelike branes and the uplift of the domain wall/cosmology correspondence becomes in this context a more general timelike/spacelike brane correspondence.
We study the transformations of the worldvolume fields of a system of multiple coinciding D-branes under gauge transformations of the supergravity Kalb-Ramond field. We find that the pure gauge part of these NS-NS transformations can be written as a U(N) symmetry of the underlying Yang-Mills group, but that in general the full NS-NS variations get mixed up non-trivially with the U(N). We compute the commutation relations and the Jacobi identities of the bigger group formed by the NS-NS and U(N) transformations.
We compare the metric and the Palatini formalism to obtain the Einstein equations in the presence of higher-order curvature corrections that consist of contractions of the Riemann tensor, but not of its derivatives. We find that in general the two fo rmalisms are not equivalent and that the set of solutions of the Palatini equations is a non-trivial subset of the solutions of the metric equations. However we also argue that for Lovelock gravities, the equivalence of the two formalism holds completely and give an explanation of why it holds precisely for these theories.
We construct a new giant graviton solution in AdS_5 x Y_5, with Y_5 a quasi-regular Sasaki-Einstein manifold, consisting on a Kaluza-Klein monopole wrapped around the Y_5 and with its Taub-NUT direction in AdS_5. We find that this configuration has m inimal energy when put in the centre of AdS_5, where it behaves as a massless particle. When we take Y_5 to be S^5, we provide a microscopical description in terms of multiple gravitational waves expanding into the fuzzy S^5 defined as an S^1 bundle over the fuzzy CP^2. Finally we provide a possible field theory dual interpretation of the construction.
