We construct a new giant graviton solution in AdS_5 x Y_5, with Y_5 a quasi-regular Sasaki-Einstein manifold, consisting on a Kaluza-Klein monopole wrapped around the Y_5 and with its Taub-NUT direction in AdS_5. We find that this configuration has minimal energy when put in the centre of AdS_5, where it behaves as a massless particle. When we take Y_5 to be S^5, we provide a microscopical description in terms of multiple gravitational waves expanding into the fuzzy S^5 defined as an S^1 bundle over the fuzzy CP^2. Finally we provide a possible field theory dual interpretation of the construction.

We propose and test a novel conjectural relation satisfied by the superconformal index of maximally supersymmetric $U(N)$ gauge theory in four dimensions. Analogous relations appear to be also valid for the superconformal indices of a large collectio n of other gauge theories, as well as for a broad class of index-like generating functions. The relation expresses the finite $N$ index as a systematic series of corrections to a large $N$ answer. Individual corrections have an holographic interpretation as the analytic continuation of contributions from giant graviton branes fixed by a specific symmetry generator.
We consider a semiclassical (large string tension ~ lambda^1/2) limit of 4-point correlator of two heavy vertex operators with large quantum numbers and two light operators. It can be written in a factorized form as a product of two 3-point functions , each given by the integrated light vertex operator on the classical string solution determined by the heavy operators. We check consistency of this factorization in the case of a correlator with two dilatons as light operators. We study in detail the example when all 4 operators are chiral primary scalars, two of which carry large charge J of order of string tension. In the large J limit this correlator is nearly extremal. Its semiclassical expression is, indeed, found to be consistent with the general protected form expected for an extremal correlator. We demonstrate explicitly that our semiclassical result matches the large J limit of the known free N=4 SYM correlator for 4 chiral primary operators with charges J,-J,2,-2; we also compare it with an existing supergravity expression. As an example of a 4-point function with two non-BPS heavy operators, we consider the case when the latter are representing folded spinning with large AdS spin and two light states being chiral primary scalars.

We discuss some new simple closed bosonic string solutions in AdS_5 x S^5 that may be of interest in the context of AdS/CFT duality. In the first part of this work we consider solutions with two spins (S_1, S_2) in AdS_5. Starting from the flat-space solutions and using perturbation theory in the curvature of AdS_5 space, we construct leading terms in the small two-spin solution. We find corrections to the leading Regge term in the classical string energy and uncover a discontinuity in the spectrum for certain type of a solution. We then analyze the connection between small-spin and large-spin limits of string solutions in AdS_5. We show that the S_1 = S_2 solution in AdS_5 found in earlier papers admits both limits only in simplest cases of the folded and rigid circular strings. In the second part of the paper we construct a new class of chiral solutions in R_t x S^5 for which embedding coordinates of S^5 satisfy the linear Laplace equations. They generalize the previously studied rigid string solutions. We study in detail a simple nontrivial example.
We study a class of solutions of IIB Supergravity which are asymptotically AdS_5 x Y^{p,q}. They have an R x SO(4) x SU(2) x U(1) isometry and preserve half of the 8 supercharges of the background geometry. They are described by a set of second order differential equations that we have found and analysed in a previous paper, where we studied 1/8 BPS states in the maximally supersymmetric AdS_5 x S^5 background. These geometries correspond to certain chiral primary operators of the N=1 superconformal quiver theories, dual to IIB theory on AdS_5 x Y^{p,q}. We also show how to recover the AdS_5 x Y^{p,q} backgrounds by suitably doubling the number of preserved supersymmetries. We then solve the differential equations perturbatively in a large AdS_5 radius expansion, imposing asymptotic AdS_5 x Y^{p,q} boundary conditions. We compute the global baryonic and mesonic charges, including the R-charge. As for the computation of the mass, i.e. the conformal dimension D of the dual field theory operators, which is notoriously subtle in asymptotically AdS backgrounds, we adopt the general formalism due to Wald and collaborators, which gives a finite result, and verify the relation D=3 R / 2, demanded by the N=1 superconformal algebra.
The isoscalar giant monopole resonance (GMR) in Samarium isotopes (from spherical $^{144}$Sm to deformed $^{148-154}$Sm) is investigated within the Skyrme random-phase-approximation (RPA) for a variety of Skyrme forces. The exact RPA and its separabl e version (SRPA) are used for spherical and deformed nuclei, respectively. The quadrupole deformation is shown to yield two effects: the GMR broadens and attains a two-peak structure due to the coupling with the quadrupole giant resonance.
