This research focuses on identifying the concentration of some heavy metal elements (Lead (Pb)  cadmium (Cd)) in different types of marine sediments dispersed along Tratous coastal area using the Atomic Absorption (Atomic Absorption Spectrophotomete r: AAS). The samples were collected from regions differ from each other in terms of geographical location and nature of the pollutants.
This study was carried out on /516/ fish individuals of Chub Mackerel Scomber japonicus (Houttuyn, 1782), which were caught from the Coastal water of Latakia province (Levantine basin) from December 2014 to November 2015, to identify the evolution stages of sexual maturity (by morphological and histological methods) and determine the spawning period of this important economic species. The results showed that Scomber japonicus begin with sexual maturity from the beginning of February and extend until mid-May, with a single peak in Mars. The average value of the gonado-somatic index (GSI) was (12.46 ± 1.52)% for males and (13.21 ± 3.9)% for female in Mars. And the total body length at sexual maturity was (21.5) cm for males, and was (23.5) cm for females. The development stages and gonad maturation in this specie, are similar with regard to the tissue and the form of gonads and according to the six gonad maturation steps.
The aim of study was to determine the dates of breeding and sexual maturity for Marsupenaeus japonicus in Lattakia coast as introduce for hatching and culturing it. The specimens were collected from the sea water of Ibn-Hany area at the north of L attakia, during the period November 2010 to October 2011 once or twice monthly. In vitro study included distinguishes males and females, morphometric measurements and weights for all individuals. The genital maturity stage was determined externally and through histological sections.
The biochemical composition of some species of Phaeophyceae (Cystoseira): Cystoseira compressa, Cystoseira barbata, Cystoseira elegans, Cystoseira amentacea, Cystoseira barbatula, Cystoseira caespitosa, have been studied. The algal specimens have been collected from Ibn Hani coast north of lattakia in spring 2014. The soluble sugar varies between (13- 56.78%) weight/dry weight [w/dw]. C.amentacea has the highest content of proteins (21.76%), and C.barbata has the lowest (9.51%). Lipid varied between (1.25- 5.55%) [w/dw]. The highest content of ash was in C.caespitosa (31.18%), and the lowest in C.amentacea (23.84%). Iodine was: C.compressa and C.caespitosa (0.68 %), C.barbata (0.69 %), C.barbatula (0.7%), C.amentacea (0.71%), C.elegans (0.8%). Mannitol was within the range (2.91-4%) [w/dw]. Results of biochemical composition of studied species showed the differences between the percentage of values, and this variety affects on the economical value for the species, also affects on the major herbivorous food, that affects on their environment and their community composition.
