This article deals with the degradation of solar cells induced by electron irradiation. We have exposed GaAs solar cells to different doses of accelerated electrons to create defects, which play an important role as non-radiative recombination centers. We try to achieve the same conditions to which the solar cells are exposed to in outer space. We have studied the variation of the photovoltaic characteristics of these cells versus electron flux. We found out that the open – circuit voltage of GaAs solar cells varies with the electron irradiation dose j, which we varied in the interval: 2x1012 elec.cm-2 < j <5x1015 elec.cm-2 and we found out that: Voc = 1.22 - 0.04 log j V Voc = 2.39 - 0.12 log j V for both, the diffusion and the recombination zones respectively. The density of the short-circuit current has been measured and we found that the current varies with the electron irradiation dose, according to the relation: Jsc = 62.47 - 3.45 log j mA.cm-2 The degradation of solar cells appears from the decrease of the maximum power when () increases.

The research aims to take advantage of the solar energy, as a free energy, to run a water pump powered by solar energy, and to study the effect of the intensity of solar radiation on the performance of this pump in Syrian coast conditions. This resea rch has explained the necessary mechanism for determining the capacity of the pump and the electric PV panels required for the work of the pump and the area of these panels. Studying the effect of intensity of solar radiation on the performance of water pump through studying the impact of pump altitude and solar radiation intensity on water flow range at experiment location. It demonstrated that the flow of the pump is going through two phases with the increasing values of solar radiation during the day. It was found that the increasing value of the flow of the pump before the value of (520W/m2) of Solar radiation was greater than that after (520W/m2) and this led to the loss of a part of the solar energy falling during the day, especially on sunny days, and the value of the loss was about (27%) of the total amount of solar energy falling per day.
This research aims to study the effect of the tilt angle of PV panels on the daily discharge a water pump powered by solar energy, and to determine the optimal tilt of these panels during summer months in the Syrian coast. The results demonstrated t hat the change of the tilt angle of PV panels from (25˚) to (35.5˚), has no effect on the curve of the solar radiation intensity and flow rate. However the resulting impact was represented by low amount of solar energy falling onto PV panels, resulting in a reduction in hydraulic energy of the pump and consequently low flow rate per day. The study showed that the amount of water flow rate at the two angels (25˚ and 22˚) for the tilt of panels was close, with preference for the angle (22˚). Reduction of water amount from one month to another during the months (June, July, August) didn't exceed (2.5%), while it was (7.5%) in September. At angle (35.5˚), water amount was approximately constant during June, July and August, while it decreased by (6%) in September. Flowing water largely decreased at angle (35.5˚) in comparison with the two angles (25˚and 22˚), so the reduction was (13, 12, 9 and 7.5%), respectively in June, July, August and September.
This research aims to study the effect of adding alloying elements and heat treatment of Zinc metal on solar energy absorbing , nine alloys ingots were manufactured by changing the percentages of added Aluminum and Copper on the pure Zinc, and thes e ratios of Aluminum were : (10% , 20% , 30% , 40 % , 50%) to demonstrate the effect of adding Aluminum to Zinc metal on solar energy absorbing , and ratios of copper were : (20% , 40%) , as well as we prepare two pure zinc samples with 99.2% of purity , one was rapidly cooled and the other slowly cooled , to demonstrate the effect of heat treatment on solar energy absorbing . In order to measure the solar energy absorbing for prepared samples , we manufactured a device depends on the methods of heat exchange between solar radiation and the surface exposed to radiation . The obtained results showed that adding Aluminum and Copper to the pure Zinc caused a decrease in solar energy absorbing . As well as increasing the percentages of adding Aluminum and Copper to the pure Zinc caused a gradually decrease in solar energy absorbing . comparing the absorbing of pure zinc samples, one was rapidly cooled and the other slowly cooled , the results showed that the sample was rapidly cooled was better than the sample slowly cooled on solar energy absorbing .
In this research, an absorption cooling system of nominal capacity 10 [kW] has been built and tested; it works by different sources of heat and by different working fluids, it is equipped with adequate sensors for measuring temperature, flows and pre ssures in multiple locations. The features of operating the machine for air conditioning has been determined, analyzed and discussed with the working fluid “water-Lithium Bromide” by different boundary conditions. The results of experiments proved the possibility of the work of solar absorption cooling machine continuously at the heating temperature of the generator of 60 [°C] producing cold water in the evaporator at a temperature less than 10 [°C] with a coefficient of performance 0,5 and this enables us to use Simple and cheap flat solar collectors for the operation of the machine.
Three identical gable-even-span greenhouses were designed, constructed and installed at the Agricultural and Veterinary Research Station of King Faisal University in order to produce cucumbers during the winter season. These experimental greenhous es were covered by ٠,٨mm thick fiberglass reinforced plastic. Two different solar heating systems were designed, built and employed to heat the ambient air temperature inside the greenhouses. The design of the first one was a surface heating system suspended and fixed on the southern side of the gable roof of one greenhouse. The second solar heating system was a solar panel, which was designed, built and situated outside of the other greenhouse.
