We investigate static and spherically symmetric stars disformally coupled to a scalar field. The scalar field is assumed to be shift symmetric, and hence the conformal and disformal factors of the metric coupled to matter are dependent only on the kinetic term of the scalar field. Assuming that the scalar field is linearly dependent on time, we consider a general shift-symmetric scalar-tensor theory and a general form of the matter energy-momentum tensor that allows for the anisotropic pressure and the heat flux in the radial direction. This is a natural starting point in light of how the gravitational field equations and the energy-momentum tensor transform under a disformal transformation. By inspecting the structure of the hydrostatic equilibrium equation in the presence of the derivative-dependent conformal and disformal factors, we show that the energy density and tangential pressure must vanish at the surface of a star. This fact is used to prove the disformal invariance of the surface of a star, which was previously subtle and unclear. We then focus on the shift-symmetric k-essence disformally coupled to matter, and study the interior and exterior metric functions and scalar-field profile in more detail. It is found that there are two branches of the solution depending on the velocity of the scalar field. The disformally-related metric functions of the exterior spacetime are also discussed.

In the context of quintessence, the inclusion of new degrees of freedoms to the matter sector might produce additional imprints on cosmological observables while keeping the scalar field responsible for the quintessence and the standard matter minimally coupled to gravity. We investigate this premise by including a canonical SU(2) Yang-Mills field to the total content of the universe coupled to the standard quintessencial field by a disformal transformation. The effects of the gauge field are studied in an anisotropic background configuration in order to allow for more general outcomes. The background dynamics study is addressed by a dynamical system analysis from which novel anisotropic scaling solutions with a non-vanishing gauge field are obtained. After establishing the dynamical character of the fixed points, the phenomenological consequences of the model are assessed by means of a numerical analysis. An interesting result to be confronted with observations is a transient matter-radiation phase for the gauge field dynamics. We have also quantified the redshift-dependent contribution of the gauge field in the form of dark radiation during the radiation era to the effective number of relativistic species. This depends essentially on the initial conditions and, more importantly, on the disformal coupling function. Phenomenological couplings and the Abelian version of the model are discussed as well to check the generality of our results.
We consider the Wheeler-De Witt equation for canonical quantum gravity coupled to massless scalar field. After regularizing and renormalizing this equation, we find a one-parameter class of its solutions.
We investigate the dynamical behavior of a scalar field non-minimally coupled to Einsteins tensor and Ricci scalar in geometries of asymptotically de Sitter spacetimes. We show that the quasinormal modes remain unaffected if the scalar field is massless and the black hole is electrically chargeless. In the massive case, the coupling of both parameters produces a region of instability in the spacetime determined by the geometry and field parameters. In the Schwarzschild case, every solution for the equations of motion with $ell>0$ has a range of values of the coupling constant that produces unstable modes. The case $ell=0$ is the most unstable one, with a threshold value for stability in the coupling. For the charged black hole, the existence of a range of instability in $eta$ is strongly related to geometry parameters presenting a region of stability independent of the chosen parameter.
We show that the combined minimal and non minimal interaction with the gravitational field may produce the generation of a cosmological constant without self-interaction of the scalar field. In the same vein we analyze the existence of states of a scalar field that by a combined interaction of minimal and non minimal coupling with the gravitational field can exhibit an unexpected property, to wit, they are acted on by the gravitational field but do not generate gravitational field. In other words, states that seems to violate the action-reaction principle. We present explicit examples of this situation in the framework of a spatially isotropic and homogeneous universe.
A spin-foam model is derived from the canonical model of Loop Quantum Gravity coupled to a massless scalar field. We generalized to the full theory the scheme first proposed in the context of Loop Quantum Cosmology by Ashtekar, Campiglia and Henderson, later developed by Henderson, Rovelli, Vidotto and Wilson-Ewing.
