The consistency of a response to a given post at semantic-level and emotional-level is essential for a dialogue system to deliver human-like interactions. However, this challenge is not well addressed in the literature, since most of the approaches neglect the emotional information conveyed by a post while generating responses. This article addresses this problem by proposing a unifed end-to-end neural architecture, which is capable of simultaneously encoding the semantics and the emotions in a post for generating more intelligent responses with appropriately expressed emotions. Extensive experiments on real-world data demonstrate that the proposed method outperforms the state-of-the-art methods in terms of both content coherence and emotion appropriateness.

This paper presents an emotion-regularized conditional variational autoencoder (Emo-CVAE) model for generating emotional conversation responses. In conventional CVAE-based emotional response generation, emotion labels are simply used as additional conditions in prior, posterior and decoder networks. Considering that emotion styles are naturally entangled with semantic contents in the language space, the Emo-CVAE model utilizes emotion labels to regularize the CVAE latent space by introducing an extra emotion prediction network. In the training stage, the estimated latent variables are required to predict the emotion labels and token sequences of the input responses simultaneously. Experimental results show that our Emo-CVAE model can learn a more informative and structured latent space than a conventional CVAE model and output responses with better content and emotion performance than baseline CVAE and sequence-to-sequence (Seq2Seq) models.

In the current field of computer vision, automatically generating texts from given images has been a fully worked technique. Up till now, most works of this area focus on image content describing, namely image-captioning. However, rare researches focus on generating product review texts, which is ubiquitous in the online shopping malls and is crucial for online shopping selection and evaluation. Different from content describing, review texts include more subjective information of customers, which may bring difference to the results. Therefore, we aimed at a new field concerning generating review text from customers based on images together with the ratings of online shopping products, which appear as non-image attributes. We made several adjustments to the existing image-captioning model to fit our task, in which we should also take non-image features into consideration. We also did experiments based on our model and get effective primary results.
Emotional text-to-speech synthesis (ETTS) has seen much progress in recent years. However, the generated voice is often not perceptually identifiable by its intended emotion category. To address this problem, we propose a new interactive training paradigm for ETTS, denoted as i-ETTS, which seeks to directly improve the emotion discriminability by interacting with a speech emotion recognition (SER) model. Moreover, we formulate an iterative training strategy with reinforcement learning to ensure the quality of i-ETTS optimization. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed i-ETTS outperforms the state-of-the-art baselines by rendering speech with more accurate emotion style. To our best knowledge, this is the first study of reinforcement learning in emotional text-to-speech synthesis.
Thanks to large-scale labeled training data, deep neural networks (DNNs) have obtained remarkable success in many vision and multimedia tasks. However, because of the presence of domain shift, the learned knowledge of the well-trained DNNs cannot be well generalized to new domains or datasets that have few labels. Unsupervised domain adaptation (UDA) studies the problem of transferring models trained on one labeled source domain to another unlabeled target domain. In this paper, we focus on UDA in visual emotion analysis for both emotion distribution learning and dominant emotion classification. Specifically, we design a novel end-to-end cycle-consistent adversarial model, termed CycleEmotionGAN++. First, we generate an adapted domain to align the source and target domains on the pixel-level by improving CycleGAN with a multi-scale structured cycle-consistency loss. During the image translation, we propose a dynamic emotional semantic consistency loss to preserve the emotion labels of the source images. Second, we train a transferable task classifier on the adapted domain with feature-level alignment between the adapted and target domains. We conduct extensive UDA experiments on the Flickr-LDL & Twitter-LDL datasets for distribution learning and ArtPhoto & FI datasets for emotion classification. The results demonstrate the significant improvements yielded by the proposed CycleEmotionGAN++ as compared to state-of-the-art UDA approaches.
