We introduce WyPR, a Weakly-supervised framework for Point cloud Recognition, requiring only scene-level class tags as supervision. WyPR jointly addresses three core 3D recognition tasks: point-level semantic segmentation, 3D proposal generation, and 3D object detection, coupling their predictions through self and cross-task consistency losses. We show that in conjunction with standard multiple-instance learning objectives, WyPR can detect and segment objects in point cloud data without access to any spatial labels at training time. We demonstrate its efficacy using the ScanNet and S3DIS datasets, outperforming prior state of the art on weakly-supervised segmentation by more than 6% mIoU. In addition, we set up the first benchmark for weakly-supervised 3D object detection on both datasets, where WyPR outperforms standard approaches and establishes strong baselines for future work.
Transformer architectures have become the model of choice in natural language processing and are now being introduced into computer vision tasks such as image classification, object detection, and semantic segmentation. However, in the field of human pose estimation, convolutional architectures still remain dominant. In this work, we present PoseFormer, a purely transformer-based approach for 3D human pose estimation in videos without convolutional architectures involved. Inspired by recent developments in vision transformers, we design a spatial-temporal transformer structure to comprehensively model the human joint relations within each frame as well as the temporal correlations across frames, then output an accurate 3D human pose of the center frame. We quantitatively and qualitatively evaluate our method on two popular and standard benchmark datasets: Human3.6M and MPI-INF-3DHP. Learning-based 3D reconstruction methods have shown impressive results. However, most methods require 3D supervision which is often hard to obtain for real-world datasets. Recently, several works have proposed differentiable rendering techniques to train reconstruction models from RGB images. Unfortunately, these approaches are currently restricted to voxel- and mesh-based representations, suffering from discretization or low resolution. In this work, we propose a differentiable rendering formulation for implicit shape and texture representations. Implicit representations have recently gained popularity as they represent shape and texture continuously. Our key insight is that depth gradients can be derived analytically using the concept of implicit differentiation. This allows us to learn implicit shape and texture representations directly from RGB images. We experimentally show that our single-view reconstructions rival those learned with full 3D supervision. Moreover, we find that our method can be used for multi-view 3D reconstruction, directly resulting in watertight meshes.
Recently, huge strides were made in monocular and multi-view pose estimation with known camera parameters, whereas pose estimation from multiple cameras with unknown positions and orientations received much less attention. In this paper, we show how to train a neural model that can perform accurate 3D pose and camera estimation, takes into account joint location uncertainty due occlusion from multiple views, and requires only 2D keypoint data for training. Our method outperforms both classical bundle adjustment and weakly-supervised monocular 3D baselines on the well-established Human3.6M dataset, as well as the more challenging in-the-wild Ski-Pose PTZ dataset with moving cameras. We provide an extensive ablation study separating the error due to the camera model, number of cameras, initialization, and image-space joint localization from the additional error introduced by our model.
The training of deep-learning-based 3D object detectors requires large datasets with 3D bounding box labels for supervision that have to be generated by hand-labeling. We propose a network architecture and training procedure for learning monocular 3D object detection without 3D bounding box labels. By representing the objects as triangular meshes and employing differentiable shape rendering, we define loss functions based on depth maps, segmentation masks, and ego- and object-motion, which are generated by pre-trained, off-the-shelf networks. We evaluate the proposed algorithm on the real-world KITTI dataset and achieve promising performance in comparison to state-of-the-art methods requiring 3D bounding box labels for training and superior performance to conventional baseline methods.
Anomalous activity recognition deals with identifying the patterns and events that vary from the normal stream. In a surveillance paradigm, these events range from abuse to fighting and road accidents to snatching, etc. Due to the sparse occurrence of anomalous events, anomalous activity recognition from surveillance videos is a challenging research task. The approaches reported can be generally categorized as handcrafted and deep learning-based. Most of the reported studies address binary classification i.e. anomaly detection from surveillance videos. But these reported approaches did not address other anomalous events e.g. abuse, fight, road accidents, shooting, stealing, vandalism, and robbery, etc. from surveillance videos. Therefore, this paper aims to provide an effective framework for the recognition of different real-world anomalies from videos. This study provides a simple, yet effective approach for learning spatiotemporal features using deep 3-dimensional convolutional networks (3D ConvNets) trained on the University of Central Florida (UCF) Crime video dataset. Firstly, the frame-level labels of the UCF Crime dataset are provided, and then to extract anomalous spatiotemporal features more efficiently a fine-tuned 3D ConvNets is proposed. Findings of the proposed study are twofold 1)There exist specific, detectable, and quantifiable features in UCF Crime video feed that associate with each other 2) Multiclass learning can improve generalizing competencies of the 3D ConvNets by effectively learning frame-level information of dataset and can be leveraged in terms of better results by applying spatial augmentation.
