A novel framework of intelligent reflecting surface (IRS)-aided multiple-input single-output (MISO) non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) network is proposed, where a base station (BS) serves multiple clusters with unfixed number of users in each cluster. The goal is to maximize the sum rate of all users by jointly optimizing the passive beamforming vector at the IRS, decoding order and power allocation coefficient vector, subject to the rate requirements of users. In order to tackle the formulated problem, a three-step approach is proposed. More particularly, a long short-term memory (LSTM) based algorithm is first adopted for predicting the mobility of users. Secondly, a K-means based Gaussian mixture model (K-GMM) algorithm is proposed for user clustering. Thirdly, a deep Q-network (DQN) based algorithm is invoked for jointly determining the phase shift matrix and power allocation policy. Simulation results are provided for demonstrating that the proposed algorithm outperforms the benchmarks, while the performance of IRS-NOMA system is better than IRS-OMA system.

Non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) has attracted much recent attention owing to its capability for improving the system spectral efficiency in wireless communications. Deploying NOMA in heterogeneous network can satisfy users explosive data traffic requirements, and NOMA will likely play an important role in the fifth-generation (5G) mobile communication networks. However, NOMA brings new technical challenges on resource allocation due to the mutual cross-tier interference in heterogeneous networks. In this article, to study the tradeoff between data rate performance and energy consumption in NOMA, we examine the problem of energy-efficient user scheduling and power optimization in 5G NOMA heterogeneous networks. The energy-efficient user scheduling and power allocation schemes are introduced for the downlink 5G NOMA heterogeneous network for perfect and imperfect channel state information (CSI) respectively. Simulation results show that the resource allocation schemes can significantly increase the energy efficiency of 5G NOMA heterogeneous network for both cases of perfect CSI and imperfect CSI.
It is known that the capacity of the intelligent reflecting surface (IRS) aided cellular network can be effectively improved by reflecting the incident signals from the transmitter in a low-cost passive reflecting way. Nevertheless, in the actual network operation, the base station (BS) and IRS may belong to different operators, consequently, the IRS is reluctant to help the BS without any payment. Therefore, this paper investigates price-based reflection resource (elements) allocation strategies for an IRS-aided multiuser multiple-input and single-output (MISO) downlink communication systems, in which all transmissions over the same frequency band. Assuming that the IRS is composed with multiple modules, each of which is attached with a smart controller, thus, the states (active/idle) of module can be operated by its controller, and all controllers can be communicated with each other via fiber links. A Stackelberg game-based alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM) is proposed to jointly optimize the transmit beamforming at the BS and the passive beamforming of the active modules. Numerical examples are presented to verify the proposed algorithm. It is shown that the proposed scheme is effective in the utilities of both the BS and IRS.
A novel reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) aided non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) downlink transmission framework is proposed. We formulate a long-term stochastic optimization problem that involves a joint optimization of NOMA user partitioning and RIS phase shifting, aiming at maximizing the sum data rate of the mobile users (MUs) in NOMA downlink networks. To solve the challenging joint optimization problem, we invoke a modified object migration automation (MOMA) algorithm to partition the users into equal-size clusters. To optimize the RIS phase-shifting matrix, we propose a deep deterministic policy gradient (DDPG) algorithm to collaboratively control multiple reflecting elements (REs) of the RIS. Different from conventional training-then-testing processing, we consider a long-term self-adjusting learning model where the intelligent agent is capable of learning the optimal action for every given state through exploration and exploitation. Extensive numerical results demonstrate that: 1) The proposed RIS-aided NOMA downlink framework achieves an enhanced sum data rate compared with the conventional orthogonal multiple access (OMA) framework. 2) The proposed DDPG algorithm is capable of learning a dynamic resource allocation policy in a long-term manner. 3) The performance of the proposed RIS-aided NOMA framework can be improved by increasing the granularity of the RIS phase shifts. The numerical results also show that reducing the granularity of the RIS phase shifts and increasing the number of REs are two efficient methods to improve the sum data rate of the MUs.
A non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) approach to user signal power allocation called Fair-NOMA is introduced. Fair-NOMA is the application of NOMA in such a way that two mobile users have the opportunity to always achieve at least the information capacity they can achieve by using orthogonal multiple access (OMA), regardless of the user selection criteria, making it suitable for implementation using any current or future scheduling paradigms. Given this condition, the bounds of the power allocation coefficients are derived as functions of the channel gains of the two mobile users. The NOMA power allocation is analyzed for two scheduled users that are selected randomly with i.i.d. channel gains. The capacity improvements made by each user and the sum capacity improvement are derived.
