In this paper, we analyze the symbol error rate (SER) performance of the simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT) enabled three-node differential decode-and-forward (DDF) relay networks, which adopt the power splitting (PS) protocol at the relay. The use of non-coherent differential modulation eliminates the need for sending training symbols to estimate the instantaneous channel state information (CSI) at all network nodes, and therefore improves the power efficiency, as compared with the coherent modulation. However, performance analysis results are not yet available for the state-of-the-art detectors such as the maximum-likelihood detector (MLD) and approximate MLD. Existing works rely on the Monte-Carlo simulation method to show the existence of an optimal PS ratio that minimizes the overall SER. In this work, we propose a near-optimal detector with linear complexity with respect to the modulation size. We derive an approximate SER expression and prove that the proposed detector achieves the full diversity order. Based on our expression, the optimal PS ratio can be accurately estimated without requiring any Monte-Carlo simulation. We also extend the proposed detector and its SER analysis for adopting the time switching (TS) protocol at the relay. Simulation results verify the effectiveness of our proposed detector and the accuracy of our SER results in various network scenarios for both PS and TS protocols.

Two weighted selection combining (WSC) schemes are proposed for a differential decode-and-forward relaying system in Rayleigh fading channels. Compared to the conventional selection combining scheme, the decision variable of the relay link is multiplied by a scale factor to combat the error propagation phenomenon. Average bit-error rate (ABER) expressions of the two proposed WSC schemes are derived in closed-form and verified by simulation results. For the second WSC scheme, asymptotic ABER expression and diversity order are derived to gain more insight into this scheme. Moreover, it is demonstrated that both WSC schemes can overcome the extra noise amplification induced by the link adaptive relaying scheme. The first WSC scheme is slightly inferior to the second one, which has a higher complexity. Both proposed WSC schemes outperform the conventional selection combining scheme.
The Fourth Industrial Revolution (Industrial 4.0) is coming, and this revolution will fundamentally enhance the way the factories manufacture products. The conventional wired lines connecting central controller to robots or actuators will be replaced by wireless communication networks due to its low cost of maintenance and high deployment flexibility. However, some critical industrial applications require ultra-high reliability and low latency communication (URLLC). In this paper, we advocate the adoption of massive multiple-input multiple output (MIMO) to support the wireless transmission for industrial applications as it can provide deterministic communications similar as wired lines thanks to its channel hardening effects. To reduce the latency, the channel blocklength for packet transmission is finite, and suffers from transmission rate degradation and decoding error probability. Thus, conventional resource allocation for massive MIMO transmission based on Shannon capacity assuming the infinite channel blocklength is no longer optimal. We first derive the closed-form expression of lower bound (LB) of achievable uplink data rate for massive MIMO system with imperfect channel state information (CSI) for both maximum-ratio combining (MRC) and zero-forcing (ZF) receivers. Then, we propose novel low-complexity algorithms to solve the achievable data rate maximization problems by jointly optimizing the pilot and payload transmission power for both MRC and ZF. Simulation results confirm the rapid convergence speed and performance advantage over the existing benchmark algorithms.
The combination of non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) and mobile edge computing (MEC) can significantly improve the spectrum efficiency beyond the fifth-generation network. In this paper, we mainly focus on energy-efficient resource allocation for a multi-user, multi-BS NOMA assisted MEC network with imperfect channel state information (CSI), in which each user can upload its tasks to multiple base stations (BSs) for remote executions. To minimize the energy consumption, we consider jointly optimizing the task assignment, power allocation and user association. As the main contribution, with imperfect CSI, the optimal closed-form expressions of task assignment and power allocation are analytically derived for the two-BS case. Specifically, the original formulated problem is nonconvex. We first transform the probabilistic problem into a non-probabilistic one. Subsequently, a bilevel programming method is proposed to derive the optimal solution. In addition, by incorporating the matching algorithm with the optimal task and power allocation, we propose a low complexity algorithm to efficiently optimize user association for the multi-user and multi-BS case. Simulations demonstrate that the proposed algorithm can yield much better performance than the conventional OMA scheme but also the identical results with lower complexity from the exhaustive search with the small number of BSs.

In this paper, intelligent reflecting surface (IRS) is proposed to enhance the physical layer security in the Rician fading channel where the angular direction of the eavesdropper is aligned with a legitimate user. In this scenario, we consider a two-phase communication system under the active attacks and passive eavesdropping. Particularly, in the first phase, the base station avoids direct transmission to the attacked user. While, in the second phase, other users cooperate to forward signals to the attacked user with the help of IRS and energy harvesting technology. Under the active attacks, we investigate an outage constrained beamforming design problem under the statistical cascaded channel error model, which is solved by using the Bernstein-type inequality. As for the passive eavesdropping, an average secrecy rate maximization problem is formulated, which is addressed by a low complexity algorithm. Numerical results show that the negative effect of the eavesdroppers channel error is greater than that of the legitimate user.

A Load Balancing Relay Algorithm (LBRA) was proposed to solve the unfair spectrum resource allocation in the traditional mobile MTC relay. In order to obtain reasonable use of spectrum resources, and a balanced MTC devices (MTCDs) distribution, spectrum resources are dynamically allocated by MTCDs regrouped on the MTCD to MTC gateway link. Moreover, the system outage probability and transmission capacity are derived when using LBRA. The numerical results show that the proposed algorithm has better performance in transmission capacity and outage probability than the traditional method. LBRA had an increase in transmission capacity of about 0.7dB, and an improvement in outage probability of about 0.8dB with a high MTCD density.
