No Arabic abstract
As we interact with the world, for example when we communicate with our colleagues in a large open space or meeting room, we continuously analyse the surrounding environment and, in particular, localise and recognise acoustic events. While we largely take such abilities for granted, they represent a challenging problem for current robots or smart voice assistants as they can be easily fooled by high degree of sound interference in acoustically complex environments. Preventing such failures when using solely audio data is challenging, if not impossible since the algorithms need to take into account wider context and often understand the scene on a semantic level. In this paper, we propose what to our knowledge is the first multi-modal direction of arrival (DoA) of sound, which uses static visual spatial prior providing an auxiliary information about the environment to suppress some of the false DoA detections. We validate our approach on a newly collected real-world dataset, and show that our approach consistently improves over classic DoA baselines
Most of the prior studies in the spatial ac{DoA} domain focus on a single modality. However, humans use auditory and visual senses to detect the presence of sound sources. With this motivation, we propose to use neural networks with audio and visual signals for multi-speaker localization. The use of heterogeneous sensors can provide complementary information to overcome uni-modal challenges, such as noise, reverberation, illumination variations, and occlusions. We attempt to address these issues by introducing an adaptive weighting mechanism for audio-visual fusion. We also propose a novel video simulation method that generates visual features from noisy target 3D annotations that are synchronized with acoustic features. Experimental results confirm that audio-visual fusion consistently improves the performance of speaker DoA estimation, while the adaptive weighting mechanism shows clear benefits.
In this paper we present FRIDA---an algorithm for estimating directions of arrival of multiple wideband sound sources. FRIDA combines multi-band information coherently and achieves state-of-the-art resolution at extremely low signal-to-noise ratios. It works for arbitrary array layouts, but unlike the various steered response power and subspace methods, it does not require a grid search. FRIDA leverages recent advances in sampling signals with a finite rate of innovation. It is based on the insight that for any array layout, the entries of the spatial covariance matrix can be linearly transformed into a uniformly sampled sum of sinusoids.
Rank-constrained spatial covariance matrix estimation (RCSCME) is a method for the situation that the directional target speech and the diffuse noise are mixed. In conventional RCSCME, independent low-rank matrix analysis (ILRMA) is used as the preprocessing method. We propose RCSCME using independent deeply learned matrix analysis (IDLMA), which is a supervised extension of ILRMA. In this method, IDLMA requires deep neural networks (DNNs) to separate the target speech and the noise. We use Denoiser, which is a single-channel speech enhancement DNN, in IDLMA to estimate not only the target speech but also the noise. We also propose noise self-supervised RCSCME, in which we estimate the noise-only time intervals using the output of Denoiser and design the prior distribution of the noise spatial covariance matrix for RCSCME. We confirm that the proposed methods outperform the conventional methods under several noise conditions.
In this paper, we present deep learning frameworks for audio-visual scene classification (SC) and indicate how individual visual and audio features as well as their combination affect SC performance. Our extensive experiments, which are conducted on DCASE (IEEE AASP Challenge on Detection and Classification of Acoustic Scenes and Events) Task 1B development dataset, achieve the best classification accuracy of 82.2%, 91.1%, and 93.9% with audio input only, visual input only, and both audio-visual input, respectively. The highest classification accuracy of 93.9%, obtained from an ensemble of audio-based and visual-based frameworks, shows an improvement of 16.5% compared with DCASE baseline.
Deep neural network based methods have been successfully applied to music source separation. They typically learn a mapping from a mixture spectrogram to a set of source spectrograms, all with magnitudes only. This approach has several limitations: 1) its incorrect phase reconstruction degrades the performance, 2) it limits the magnitude of masks between 0 and 1 while we observe that 22% of time-frequency bins have ideal ratio mask values of over~1 in a popular dataset, MUSDB18, 3) its potential on very deep architectures is under-explored. Our proposed system is designed to overcome these. First, we propose to estimate phases by estimating complex ideal ratio masks (cIRMs) where we decouple the estimation of cIRMs into magnitude and phase estimations. Second, we extend the separation method to effectively allow the magnitude of the mask to be larger than 1. Finally, we propose a residual UNet architecture with up to 143 layers. Our proposed system achieves a state-of-the-art MSS result on the MUSDB18 dataset, especially, a SDR of 8.98~dB on vocals, outperforming the previous best performance of 7.24~dB.
