We report $^{31}$P NMR measurements under various magnetic fields up to 7 T for the intermediate valence compound EuNi$_2$P$_2$, which shows heavy electronic states at low temperatures. In the high-temperature region above 40 K, the Knight shift followed the Curie--Weiss law reflecting localized $4f$ states. In addition, the behavior corresponding to the temperature variation of the average valence of Eu was observed in the nuclear spin-lattice relaxation rate $1/T_1$. With the occurrence of the Kondo effect, $1/T_1$ was clearly reduced below 40 K, and the Knight shift becomes almost constant at low temperatures. From these results, the formation of heavy quasiparticles by the hybridization of Eu $4f$ electrons and conduction electrons was clarified from microscopic viewpoints. Furthermore, a characteristic spin fluctuation was observed at low temperatures, which would be associated with valence fluctuations caused by the intermediate valence state of EuNi$_2$P$_2$.

Detailed ${}^{31}$P nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) measurements are presented on well-characterized single crystals of antiferromagnetic van der Waals Ni$_2$P$_2$S$_6$. An anomalous breakdown is observed in the proportionality of the NMR shift $K$ with the bulk susceptibility $chi$. This so-called $K$$-$$chi$ anomaly occurs in close proximity to the broad peak in $chi(T)$, thereby implying a connection to quasi-2D magnetic correlations known to be responsible for this maximum. Quantum chemistry calculations show that crystal field energy level depopulation effects cannot be responsible for the $K$$-$$chi$ anomaly. Appreciable in-plane transferred hyperfine coupling is observed, which is consistent with the proposed Ni$-$S$-$Ni super- and Ni$-$S$-$S$-$Ni super-super-exchange coupling mechanisms. Magnetization and spin$-$lattice relaxation rate ($T_1^{-1}$) measurements indicate little to no magnetic field dependence of the Neel temperature. Finally, $T_1^{-1}(T)$ evidences relaxation driven by three-magnon scattering in the antiferromagnetic state.

We present experimental results of electrical resistivity, Hall coefficient, magnetic susceptibility, and specific heat for single crystals of Ce-based intervalent compound CeNiSi$_2$. The results show similar behaviors observed in Yb-based intervalent compounds and support recent thoery of the Anderson lattice, in which the Fermi-liquid coherence is gloval over the whole lattice. There is a low-temperature scale $T_{coh} sim$ 50 K for the onset of Fermi-liquid coherence, in addition to a high-temperature scale $T_K^* sim$ 150 K for the Kondo-lattice condensation. Therefore, we conclude that two energy scales are generic in intermediate valence compounds based on Ce where the orbital degeneracy is smaller and where the size of the $4f$ orbital is larger than those based on Yb.
Yb$_2$Si$_2$Al may be a prototype for exploring different aspects of the Shastry-Sutherland lattice, formed by planes of orthogonally coupled Yb ions. Measurements of the magnetic susceptibility find incoherently fluctuating Yb$^{3+}$ moments coexisting with a weakly correlated metallic state that is confirmed by measurements of the electrical resistivity. Increasing signs of Kondo coherence are found with decreasing temperature, including an enhanced Sommerfeld coefficient and Kadowaki-Woods ratio that signal that the metallic state found at the lowest temperatures is a Fermi liquid where correlations have become significantly stronger. A pronounced peak in the electronic and magnetic specific heat indicates that the coupling of the Yb moments to the conduction electrons leads to an effective Kondo temperature that is approximately 30 K. The valence of Yb$_2$Si$_2$Al has been investigated with electron spectroscopy methods. Yb$_2$Si$_2$Al is found to be strongly intermediate valent ($v_F=2.68(2)$ at 80 K). Taken together, these experimental data are consistent with a scenario where a coherent Kondo lattice forms in Yb$_2$Si$_2$Al from an incoherently fluctuating ensemble of Yb moments with incomplete Kondo compensation, and strong intermediate valence character.
We present evidence for nuclear spin-lattice relaxation driven by glassy nematic fluctuations in isovalent P-doped BaFe$_2$As$_2$ single crystals. Both the $^{75}$As and $^{31}$P sites exhibit stretched-exponential relaxation similar to the electron-doped systems. By comparing the hyperfine fields and the relaxation rates at these sites we find that the As relaxation cannot be explained solely in terms of magnetic spin fluctuations. We demonstrate that nematic fluctuations couple to the As nuclear quadrupolar moment and can explain the excess relaxation. These results suggest that glassy nematic dynamics are a universal phenomenon in the iron-based superconductors.

We present results from point-contact spectroscopy of the antiferromagnetic heavy-fermion superconductor UPd$_2$Al$_3$: conductance spectra are taken from single crystals with two major surface orientations as a function of temperature and magnetic field, and analyzed using a theory of co-tunneling into an Anderson lattice. Spectroscopic signatures are clearly identified including the distinct asymmetric double-peak structure arising from the opening of a hybridization gap when a coherent heavy Fermi liquid is formed. Both the hybridization gap, found to be 7.2 $pm$ 0.3 meV at 4 K, and the conductance enhancement above a flat background decrease upon increasing temperature. While the hybridization gap is extrapolated to remain finite up to $sim$28 K, close to the temperature around which the magnetic susceptibility displays a broad peak, the conductance enhancement vanishes at $sim$18 K, slightly above the antiferromagnetic transition temperature ($T_textrm{N}$ $approx$ 14 K). This rapid decrease of the conductance enhancement is understood as a consequence of the junction drifting away from the ballistic regime due to increased scattering off magnons associated with the localized U 5$f$ electrons. This shows that while the hybridization gap opening is not directly associated with the antiferromagnetic ordering, its visibility in the conductance is greatly affected by the temperature-dependent magnetic excitations. Our findings are not only consistent with the 5$f$ dual-nature picture in the literature but also shed new light on the interplay between the itinerant and localized electrons in UPd$_2$Al$_3$.
