We construct a nearly-$AdS_2$ solution describing an eternal traversable wormhole. The solution contains negative null energy generated by quantum fields under the influence of an external coupling between the two boundaries. In parallel, we discuss two SYK systems coupled by a relevant interaction. The physics of the two cases is very similar. They both share a gravitational subsector which is identical. The solution within this subsector sets the stage for dynamics which is almost conformal invariant. We study this system in detail, both in gravity and in the SYK model. The coupled SYK models have an interesting phase diagram at finite temperature, displaying the usual Hawking-Page transition between the thermal AdS phase at low temperature and the black hole phase at high temperature. Interestingly, these two phases are continuously connected in the microcannonical ensemble.

The Maldacena-Qi model describes two copies of the Sachdev-Ye-Kitaev model coupled with an additional coupling, and is dual to the Jackiw-Teitelboim gravity which exhibits an eternal traversable wormhole in the low-temperature limit. In this work, we study an experimental consequence of the existence of the traversable wormhole by considering the tunneling spectroscopy for the Maldacena-Qi model. Comparing to the high-temperature black hole phase where the bulk geometry is disconnected, we find that both the tunneling probability and the differential conductance in the low-temperature wormhole phase show non-trivial oscillation, which directly provides an unambiguous signature of the underlying $operatorname{SL}(2)$ symmetry of the bulk geometry. We also perform bulk calculations in both high and low-temperature phases, which match the results from the boundary quantum theory.
The SYK model has a wormhole-like solution after averaging over the fermionic coupling in the nearly $AdS_2$ space. Even when the couplings are fixed the contribution of these wormholes continues to exist and new saddle points appear which are interpreted as half-wormholes. In this paper, we will study the fate of these wormholes in a model without quenched disorder namely a tensor model with $O(N)^{q-1}$ gauge symmetry whose correlation function and thermodynamics in the large $N$ limit are the same as that of SYK model. We will restate the factorization problem linked with the wormhole threaded Wilson, operator, in terms of global charges or non-trivial cobordism classes associated with disconnected wormholes. Therefore in order for the partition function to factorize especially at short distances, there must exist certain topological defects which break the global symmetry associated with wormholes and make the theory devoid of global symmetries. We will interpret these wormholes with added topological defects as our half-wormholes. We will also comment on the late time behaviour of the spectral form factor, particularly its leading and sub-leading order contributions coming from higher genus wormholes in the gravitational sector. We also found its underlying connections with the Brownian SYK model, particularly in the plateau region which has constant contributions coming from non-trivial saddle points of holonomy from the wormhole followed by an exponential rising part, where the other non-trivial saddles from half-wormhole dominate and give rise to unusual thermodynamics in the bulk sector due to non-perturbative effects.
We attempt to construct eternal traversable wormholes connecting two asymptotically AdS regions by introducing a static coupling between their dual CFTs. We prove that there are no semiclassical traversable wormholes with Poincare invariance in the boundary directions in higher than two spacetime dimensions. We critically examine the possibility of evading our result by coupling a large number of bulk fields. Static, traversable wormholes with less symmetry may be possible, and could be constructed using the ingredients we develop here.

We model the essential features of eternal inflation on the landscape of a dense discretuum of vacua by the potential $V(phi)=V_{0}+delta V(phi)$, where $|delta V(phi)|ll V_{0}$ is random. We find that the diffusion of the distribution function $rho(phi,t)$ of the inflaton expectation value in different Hubble patches may be suppressed due to the effect analogous to the Anderson localization in disordered quantum systems. At $t to infty$ only the localized part of the distribution function $rho (phi, t)$ survives which leads to dynamical selection principle on the landscape. The probability to measure any but a small value of the cosmological constant in a given Hubble patch on the landscape is exponentially suppressed at $tto infty$.
We investigate two sparse Sachdev-Ye-Kitaev (SYK) systems coupled by a bilinear term as a holographic quantum mechanical description of an eternal traversable wormhole in the low temperature limit. Each SYK system consists of $N$ Majorana fermions coupled by random $q$-body interactions. The degree of sparseness is captured by a regular hypergraph in such a way that the Hamiltonian contains exactly $k,N$ independent terms. We improve on the theoretical understanding of the sparseness property by using known measures of hypergraph expansion. We show that the sparse version of the two coupled SYK model is gapped with a ground state close to a thermofield double state. Using Krylov subspace and parallelization techniques, we simulate the system for $q=4$ and $q=8.$ The sparsity of the model allows us to explore larger values of $N$ than the ones existing in the literature for the all-to-all SYK. We analyze in detail the two-point functions and the transmission amplitude of signals between the two systems. We identify a range of parameters where revivals obey the scaling predicted by holography and signals can be interpreted as traversing the wormhole.
