A Charge eXchange Recombination Spectroscopy (CXRS) system designed to measure the poloidal rotation velocity is developed in Heliotron J. The poloidal CXRS system measures the carbon emission line (C VI, n=8-7, 529.05nm) and the Doppler shift of the emission line provides the information of plasma rotation velocity. A high throughput photographic-lens monochromator (F/2.8) with 0.73nm/mm dispersion is adopted to achieve high rotation velocity and temporal resolution. Since two heating neutral beams from two tangential injectors (NBI) are used as the diagnostic beams, a wide observation range (0.26<r/a<0.92) is covered by 15 sightlines with a high spatial resolution(d<r/a> < 0.06) at peripheral region (r/a>0.6). The system design and the calibration method are presented. The initial results of poloidal rotation measurement show an electron diamagnetic rotation in an NBI heated plasma, while an ion diamagnetic rotation is observed when ECH is additionally applied. The evaluated radial electric field profile shows a positive Er at plasma core region in the ECH+NBI plasma, and a negative Er in the NBI heated plasma.

The aim of the study is to analyze the stability of the Energetic Particle Modes (EPM) and Alfven Eigenmodes (AE) in Helitron J and LHD plasma if the electron cyclotron current drive (ECCD) is applied. The analysis is performed using the code FAR3d that solves the reduced MHD equations describing the linear evolution of the poloidal flux and the toroidal component of the vorticity in a full 3D system, coupled with equations of density and parallel velocity moments for the energetic particle (EP) species, including the effect of the acoustic modes. The Landau damping and resonant destabilization effects are added via the closure relation. The simulation results show that the n=1 EPM and n=2 Global AE (GAE) in Heliotron J plasma can be stabilized if the magnetic shear is enhanced at the plasma periphery by an increase (co-ECCD injection) or decrease (ctr-ECCD injection) of the rotational transform at the magnetic axis iota0. In the ctr-ECCD simulations, the EPM/AE growth rate decreases only below a given iota0, similar to the ECCD intensity threshold observed in the experiments. In addition, ctr-ECCD simulations show an enhancement of the continuum damping. The simulations of the LHD discharges with ctr-ECCD injection indicate the stabilization of the n=1 EPM, n=2 Toroidal AE (TAE) and n=3 TAE, caused by an enhancement of the continuum damping in the inner plasma leading to a higher EP beta threshold with respect to the co- and no-ECCD simulations.
We show that the charge accumulated by a dielectric plasma-facing solid can be measured by infrared spectroscopy. The approach utilizes a stack of materials supporting a surface plasmon resonance in the infrared. For frequencies near the Berreman resonance of the layer facing the plasma the reflectivity dip--measured from the back of the stack, not in contact with the plasma--depends strongly on the angle of incidence making it an ideal sensor for the changes of the layers dielectric function due to the polarizability of the trapped surplus charges. The charge-induced shifts of the dip, both as a function of the angle and the frequency of the incident infrared light, are large enough to be measurable by attenuated total reflection setups.
The physics of divertor detachment is determined by divertor power, particle and momentum balance. This work provides a novel analysis technique of the Balmer line series to obtain a full particle/power balance measurement of the divertor. This supplies new information to understand what controls the divertor target ion flux during detachment. Atomic deuterium excitation emission is separated from recombination quantitatively using Balmer series line ratios. This enables analysing those two components individually, providing ionisation/recombination source/sinks and hydrogenic power loss measurements. Probabilistic Monte Carlo techniques were employed to obtain full error propagation - eventually resulting in probability density functions for each output variable. Both local and overall particle and power balance in the divertor are then obtained. These techniques and their assumptions have been verified by comparing the analysed synthetic diagnostic measurements obtained from SOLPS simulation results for the same discharge. Power/particle balance measurements have been obtained during attached and detached conditions on the TCV tokamak.
The application of non-axisymmetric resonant magnetic perturbations (RMPs) to low current plasmas in the Mega Amp Spherical Tokamak (MAST) was found to be correlated with substantial drops in neutron production, suggesting a significant degradation of fast ion confinement. The effects of such perturbations on fast ions in MAST have been modelled using a revised version of a non-steady-state orbit-following Monte-Carlo code (NSS OFMC), in which the parametrization of fusion reaction rates has been updated and neutron rates have been recalculated. Losses of fast ions via charge-exchange (CX) with background neutrals and the subsequent reionization of fast neutrals due to collisions with bulk plasma particles have also been taken into account. The effects of the plasma response to externally-applied RMPs have been included in the modelling. The updated results show that computed neutron rates in the presence of RMPs with the plasma response and CX reactions taken into account agree very well with the experimental data throughout the analysis target time. CX reactions play an important role in determining the neutron rates, in particular before the onset of RMPs.

A finite-time singularity accompanied by log-periodic oscillations shaped the war dynamics and development of the International System during the period 1495 - 1945. The identification of this singularity provides us with a perspective to penetrate and decode the dynamics of the International System. Various regularities in the dynamics of the International System can be identified. These regularities are remarkably consistent, and can be attributed to the connectivity and the growth of connectivity of the International System.
