We investigate the bottom of the spectra of infinite quantum graphs, i.e., Laplace operators on metric graphs having infinitely many edges and vertices. We introduce a new definition of the isoperimetric constant for quantum graphs and then prove the Cheeger-type estimate. Our definition of the isoperimetric constant is purely combinatorial and thus it establishes connections with the combinatorial isoperimetric constant, one of the central objects in spectral graph theory and in the theory of simple random walks on graphs. The latter enables us to prove a number of criteria for quantum graphs to be uniformly positive or to have purely discrete spectrum. We demonstrate our findings by considering trees, antitrees and Cayley graphs of finitely generated groups.

We investigate self-adjoint extensions of the minimal Kirchhoff Laplacian on an infinite metric graph. More specifically, the main focus is on the relationship between graph ends and the space of self-adjoint extensions of the corresponding minimal Kirchhoff Laplacian $mathbf{H}_0$. First, we introduce the notion of finite and infinite volume for (topological) ends of a metric graph and then establish a lower bound on the deficiency indices of $mathbf{H}_0$ in terms of the number of finite volume graph ends. This estimate is sharp and we also find a necessary and sufficient condition for the equality between the number of finite volume graph ends and the deficiency indices of $mathbf{H}_0$ to hold. Moreover, it turns out that finite volume graph ends play a crucial role in the study of Markovian extensions of $mathbf{H}_0$. In particular, we show that the minimal Kirchhoff Laplacian admits a unique Markovian extension exactly when every topological end of the underlying metric graph has infinite volume. In the case of finitely many finite volume ends (for instance, the latter includes Cayley graphs of a large class of finitely generated infinite groups) we are even able to provide a complete description of all Markovian extensions of $mathbf{H}_0$.
We consider the Dirichlet Laplace operator on open, quasi-bounded domains of infinite volume. For such domains semiclassical spectral estimates based on the phase-space volume - and therefore on the volume of the domain - must fail. Here we present a method how one can nevertheless prove uniform bounds on eigenvalues and eigenvalue means which are sharp in the semiclassical limit. We give examples in horn-shaped regions and so-called spiny urchins. Some results are extended to Schrodinger operators defined on quasi-bounded domains with Dirichlet boundary conditions.
Let $Gamma$ be an arbitrary $mathbb{Z}^n$-periodic metric graph, which does not coincide with a line. We consider the Hamiltonian $mathcal{H}_varepsilon$ on $Gamma$ with the action $-varepsilon^{-1}{mathrm{d}^2/mathrm{d} x^2}$ on its edges; here $varepsilon>0$ is a small parameter. Let $minmathbb{N}$. We show that under a proper choice of vertex conditions the spectrum $sigma(mathcal{H}^varepsilon)$ of $mathcal{H}^varepsilon$ has at least $m$ gaps as $varepsilon$ is small enough. We demonstrate that the asymptotic behavior of these gaps and the asymptotic behavior of the bottom of $sigma(mathcal{H}^varepsilon)$ as $varepsilonto 0$ can be completely controlled through a suitable choice of coupling constants standing in those vertex conditions. We also show how to ensure for fixed (small enough) $varepsilon$ the precise coincidence of the left endpoints of the first $m$ spectral gaps with predefined numbers.
Smoothing (and decay) spacetime estimates are discussed for evolution groups of self-adjoint operators in an abstract setting. The basic assumption is the existence (and weak continuity) of the spectral density in a functional setting. Spectral identities for the time evolution of such operators are derived, enabling results concerning best constants for smoothing estimates. When combined with suitable comparison principles (analogous to those established in our previous work), they yield smoothing estimates for classes of functions of the operators . A important particular case is the derivation of global spacetime estimates for a perturbed operator $H+V$ on the basis of its comparison with the unperturbed operator $H.$ A number of applications are given, including smoothing estimates for fractional Laplacians, Stark Hamiltonians and Schrodinger operators with potentials.
We study the spectrum of the Dirichlet Laplacian on an unbounded twisted tube with twisting velocity exploding to infinity. If the tube cross section does not intersect the axis of rotation, then its spectrum is purely discrete under some additional conditions on the twisting velocity (D.Krejcirik, 2015). In the current work we prove a Berezin type upper bound for the eigenvalue moments.
