In this paper we study a distributed control problem for a phase-field system of conserved type with a possibly singular potential. We mainly handle two cases: the case of a viscous Cahn-Hilliard type dynamics for the phase variable in case of a logarithmic-type potential with bounded domain and the case of a standard Cahn-Hilliard equation in case of a regular potential with unbounded domain, like the classical double-well potential, for example. Necessary first order conditions of optimality are derived under natural assumptions on the data.

We study a class of elliptic problems with homogeneous Dirichlet boundary condition and a nonlinear reaction term $f$ which is nonlocal depending on the $L^{p}$-norm of the unknown function. The nonlinearity $f$ can make the problem degenerate since it may even have multiple singularities in the nonlocal variable. We use fixed point arguments for an appropriately defined solution map to produce multiplicity of classical positive solutions with ordered norms.
In this paper, we consider an optimal bilinear control problem for the nonlinear Schr{o}dinger equations with singular potentials. We show well-posedness of the problem and existence of an optimal control. In addition, the first order optimality system is rigorously derived. Our results generalize the ones in cite{Sp} in several aspects.
In this work, we analytically investigate a multi-component system for describing phase separation and damage processes in solids. The model consists of a parabolic diffusion equation of fourth order for the concentration coupled with an elliptic system with material dependent coefficients for the strain tensor and a doubly nonlinear differential inclusion for the damage function. The main aim of this paper is to show existence of weak solutions for the introduced model, where, in contrast to existing damage models in the literature, different elastic properties of damaged and undamaged material are regarded. To prove existence of weak solutions for the introduced model, we start with an approximation system. Then, by passing to the limit, existence results of weak solutions for the proposed model are obtained via suitable variational techniques.
We study the singular perturbation of an elastic energy with a singular weight. The minimization of this energy results in a multi-scale pattern formation. We derive an energy scaling law in terms of the perturbation parameter and prove that, although one cannot expect periodicity of minimizers, the energy of a minimizer is uniformly distributed across the sample. Finally, following the approach developed by Alberti and M{u}ller in 2001 we prove that a sequence of minimizers of the perturbed energies converges to a Young measure supported on functions of slope $pm 1$ and of period depending on the location in the domain and the weights in the energy.
We prove the existence of weak solutions to a system of two diffusion equations that are coupled by a pointwise volume constraint. The time evolution is given by gradient dynamics for a free energy functional. Our primary example is a model for the demixing of polymers, the corresponding energy is the one of Flory, Huggins and deGennes. Due to the non-locality in the equations, the dynamics considered here is qualitatively different from the one found in the formally related Cahn-Hilliard equations. Our angle of attack is from the theory of optimal mass transport, that is, we consider the evolution equations for the two components as two gradient flows in the Wasserstein distance with one joint energy functional that has the volume constraint built in. The main difference to our previous work arXiv:1712.06446 is the nonlinearity of the energy density in the gradient part, which becomes singular at the interface between pure and mixed phases.
