The determination of a finite Blaschke product from its critical points is a well-known problem with interrelations to other topics. Though existence and uniqueness of solutions are established for long, we present several new aspects which have not yet been explored to their full extent. In particular, we show that the following three problems are equivalent: (i) determining a finite Blaschke product from its critical points, (ii) finding the equilibrium position of moveable point charges interacting with a special configuration of fixed charges, (iii) solving a moment problem for the canonical representation of power moments on the real axis. These equivalences are not only of theoretical interest, but also open up new perspectives for the design of algorithms. For instance, the second problem is closely linked to the determination of certain Stieltjes and Van Vleck polynomials for a second order ODE and allows the description of solutions as global minimizers of an energy functional.

A finite Blaschke product, restricted to the unit circle, is a smooth covering map. The maximum and minimum values of the derivative of this map reflect the geometry of the Blaschke product. We identify two classes of extremal Blaschke products: those that maximize the difference between the maximum and minimum of the derivative, and those that minimize it. Both classes turn out to have the same algebraic structure, being the quotient of two hypergeometric polynomials.
We study infinitesimal generators of one-parameter semigroups in the unit disk $mathbb D$ having prescribed boundary regular fixed points. Using an explicit representation of such infinitesimal generators in combination with Krein-Milman Theory we obtain new sharp inequalities relating spectral values at the fixed points with other important quantities having dynamical meaning.vWe also give a new proof of the classical Cowen-Pommerenke inequalities for univalent self-maps of $mathbb D$.

We continue our study on counting irreducible polynomials over a finite field with prescribed coefficients. We set up a general combinatorial framework using generating functions with coefficients from a group algebra which is generated by equivalent classes of polynomials with prescribed coefficients. Simplified expressions are derived for some special cases. Our results extend some earlier results.
Given an infinite set of special divisors satisfying a mild regularity condition, we prove the existence of a Borcherds product of non-zero weight whose divisor is supported on these special divisors. We also show that every meromorphic Borcherds product is the quotient of two holomorphic ones. The proofs of both results rely on the properties of vector valued Eisenstein series for the Weil representation.
We describe all linear operators on spaces of multivariate polynomials preserving the property of being non-vanishing in open circular domains. This completes the multivariate generalization of the classification program initiated by Polya-Schur for univariate real polynomials and provides a natural framework for dealing in a uniform way with Lee-Yang type problems in statistical mechanics, combinatorics, and geometric function theory. This is an announcement with some of the main results in arXiv:0809.0401 and arXiv:0809.3087.
