The large arrays of magnetic dots are the building blocks of magnonic crystals and the emerging bit patterned media for future recording technology. In order to fully utilize the functionalities of high density magnetic nanodots, a method for the selective reversal of a single nanodot in a matrix of dots is desired. We have proposed a method for magnetization reversal of a single nanodot with microwave excitation in a matrix of magneto-statically interacting dots. The method is based on the excitation of collective modes and the spatial anomaly in the microwave power absorption. We perform numerical simulations to demonstrate the possibility of switching a single dot from any initial state of a 3 by 3 matrix of dots, and develop a theoretical model for the phenomena. We discuss the applicability of the proposed method for introducing defect modes in magnonic crystals as well as for future magnetic recording.

We compare the response of five different models of two interacting electrons in a quantum dot to an external short lived radial excitation that is strong enough to excite the system well beyond the linear response regime. The models considered describe the Coulomb interaction between the electrons in different ways ranging from mean-field approaches to configuration interaction (CI) models, where the two-electron Hamiltonian is diagonalized in a large truncated Fock space. The radially symmetric excitation is selected in order to severely put to test the different approaches to describe the interaction and correlations of an electron system in a nonequilibrium state. As can be expected for the case of only two electrons none of the mean-field models can in full details reproduce the results obtained by the CI model. Nonetheless, some linear and nonlinear characteristics are reproduced reasonably well. All the models show activation of an increasing number of collective modes as the strength of the excitation is increased. By varying slightly the confinement potential of the dot we observe how sensitive the properties of the excitation spectrum are to the Coulomb interaction and its correlation effects. In order to approach closer the question of nonlinearity we solve one of the mean-field models directly in a nonlinear fashion without resorting to iterations.
We demonstrate a quasi ballistic switching of the magnetization in a microscopic mag-neto resistive memory cell. By means of time resolved magneto transport we follow the large angle precession of the free layer magnetization of a spin valve cell upon applica-tion of transverse magnetic field pulses. Stopping the field pulse after a 180 degree precession rotation leads to magnetization reversal with reversal times as short as 165 ps. This switching mode represents the fundamental ultra fast limit of field induced magnetization reversal.

Collective behavior is one of the most intriguing aspects of the hydrodynamic approach to electronic transport. Here we provide a consistent, unified calculation of the dispersion relations of the hydrodynamic collective modes in graphene. Taking into account viscous effects, we show that the hydrodynamic sound mode in graphene becomes overdamped at sufficiently large momentum scales. Extending the linearized theory beyond the hydrodynamic regime, we connect the diffusive hydrodynamic charge density fluctuations with plasmons.
We experimentally study magnetization dynamics in magnetic tunnel junctions driven by femtosecond-laser-induced surface acoustic waves. The acoustic pulses induce a magnetization precession in the free layer of the magnetic tunnel junction through magnetoelastic coupling. The frequency and amplitude of the precession shows a pronounced dependence on the applied magnetic field and the laser excitation position. Comparing the acoustic-wave-induced precession frequencies with precession induced by charge currents and with micromagnetic simulations we identify spatially non-uniform magnetization modes localized close the edge regions as being responsible for the optically induced magnetization dynamics. The experimental scheme even allows us to coherently control the magnetization precession using two acoustic pulses. This might prove important for future applications requiring ultrafast spin manipulation. Additionally, our results directly pinpoint the importance of acoustic pulses since they could be relevant when investigating optically-induced temperature effects in magnetic structures.
We investigate collective modes in three dimensional (3D) gapless multi-Weyl semimetals with anisotropic energy band dispersions (i.e., $Esim sqrt{ k_{parallel}^{2J} + k_z^2}$, where $k_{parallel}$ and $k_z$ are wave vectors and $J$ is a positive integer). For comparison, we also consider the gapless semimetals with the isotropic band dispersions (i.e., $Esim k^J$). We calculate analytically long-wavelength plasma frequencies incorporating interband transitions and chiral properties of carriers. For both the isotropic and anisotropic cases, we find that interband transitions and chirality lead to the depolarization shift of plasma frequencies. For the isotropic parabolic band dispersion (i.e., $N=2$, $Esim k^2$), the long-wavelength plasma frequencies lie outside the single particle excitation regions for all carrier densities, and thus the plasmons do not decay via Landau damping. For the higher-order band dispersions ($N ge 3$) the long-wavelength plasmons experience damping below a critical density. For systems with the anisotropic dispersion the density dependence of the long-wavelength plasma frequency along the direction of non-linear dispersion behaves like that of the isotropic linear band model ($N=1$), while along the direction of linear dispersion it behaves like that of the isotropic non-linear model ($N ge 2$). Plasmons along both directions remain undamped over a broad range of densities due to the chirality induced depolarization shift. Our results provide a comprehensive picture of how band dispersion and chirality affect plasmon behaviors in 3D gapless chiral systems with the arbitrary band dispersion.
