We study a deSitter/Anti-deSitter/Poincare Yang-Mills theory of gravity in d-space-time dimensions in an attempt to retain the best features of both general relativity and Yang-Mills theory: quadratic curvature, dimensionless coupling and background independence. We derive the equations of motion for Lie algebra valued scalars and show that in the geometric optics limit they traverse geodesics with respect to the Lorentzian geometry determined by the frame fields. Mixing between components appears to next to leading order in the WKB approximation. We then restrict to two space-time dimensions for simplicity, in which case the theory reduces to the well known Katanaev-Volovich model. We complete the Hamiltonian analysis of the vacuum theory and use it to prove a generalized Birkhoff theorem. There are two classes of solutions: with torsion and without torsion. The former are parametrized by two constants of motion, have event horizons for certain ranges of the parameters and a curvature singularity. The latter yield a unique solution, up to diffeomorphisms, that describes a space constant curvature .

In the present paper, we consider a model of non-minimal modified Yang-Mills theory in the Friedmann-Robertson-Walker cosmology, in which the Yang-Mills field couples to the scalar curvature through a function of its first invariant. We show that cosmic acceleration can be realized due to non-minimal gravitational coupling of the modified Yang-Mills theory. Besides general study, we consider in detail the case of power-law coupling function. We derive the basic equations for the cosmic scale factor in our model, and provide several examples of their solutions.

In this paper we study Joule-Thomson $(JT)$ expansion of non-linearly charged $AdS$ black holes in Einstein-power-Yang-Mills (EPYM) gravity in $D$ dimensions. Within the framework of extended phase space thermodynamics we identify the cosmological constant as thermodynamic pressure and the black hole mass with the enthalpy and derive the Joule-Thomson coefficient $mu$. Furthermore we have presented equations for inversion curves and the exact expression for the minimum inversion temperature. We also have calculated the ratio between the minimum of inversion $T_i^{min}$ and the critical temperature $T_c$ and obtained the analytic expression for the ratio $frac{T_i^{min}}{T_c}$ that depends explicitly on the non-linearity parameter $q$ and dimension $D$. We consider the isenthalpic curves in the $T- P$ plane for different values of the fixed black hole mass and obtain heating and cooling region. Finally we have dealt with two limiting masses which characterizes the process of Joule-Thomson expansion in the $EPYM$ black holes.
In this paper, the shadows cast by non-rotating and rotating modified gravity black holes are investigated. In addition to the black hole spin parameter $a$ and the inclination angle $theta$ of observer, another parameter $alpha$ measuring the deviation of gravitational constant from the Newton one is also found to affect the shape of the black hole shadow. The result shows that, for fixed values of $a/M$ and $theta$, the size and perimeter of the shadows cast by the non-rotating and rotating black holes significantly increase with the parameter $alpha$, while the distortions decrease with $alpha$. Moreover, the energy emission rate of the black hole in high energy case is also investigated, and the result shows that the peak of the emission rate decreases with the parameter $alpha$.

In Einstein-Maxwell theory black holes are uniquely determined by their mass, their charge and their angular momentum. This is no longer true in Einstein-Yang-Mills theory. We discuss sequences of neutral and charged SU(N) Einstein-Yang-Mills black holes, which are static spherically symmetric and asymptotically flat, and which carry Yang-Mills hair. Furthermore, in Einstein-Maxwell theory static black holes are spherically symmetric. We demonstrate that, in contrast, SU(2) Einstein-Yang-Mills theory possesses a sequence of black holes, which are static and only axially symmetric.
We study the two-dimensional Yang--Mills theory with four supercharges in the large-$N$ limit. By using thermal boundary conditions, we analyze the internal energy and the distribution of scalars. We compare their behavior to the maximally supersymmetric case with sixteen supercharges, which is known to admit a holographic interpretation. Our lattice results for the scalar distribution show no visible dependence on $N$ and the energy at strong coupling appears independent of temperature.
