A general discussion of the simulation procedure of the full susceptibility tensor and isothermal magnetization pseudovector for compounds comprising weakly-interacting magnetic centers is presented. A single-crystal-sample as well as a powder-sample case are considered. The procedure is used to obtain explicit expressions for the full susceptibility tensor for spins S=1, 3/2, 2, and 5/2 for non-vanishing rhombic local anisotropy and any form of spectroscopic tensor.

We propose an exact construction for atypical excited states of a class of non-integrable quantum many-body Hamiltonians in one dimension (1D), two dimensions (2D), and three dimensins (3D) that display area law entanglement entropy. These examples of many-body `scar states have, by design, other properties, such as topological degeneracies, usually associated with the gapped ground states of symmetry protected topological phases or topologically ordered phases of matter.
Quantum spin liquids (QSLs) form an extremely unusual magnetic state in which the spins are highly correlated and fluctuate coherently down to the lowest temperatures, but without symmetry breaking and without the formation of any static long-range-ordered magnetism. Such intriguing phenomena are not only of great fundamental relevance in themselves, but also hold the promise for quantum computing and quantum information. Among different types of QSLs, the exactly solvable Kitaev model is attracting much attention, with most proposed candidate materials, e.g., RuCl$_3$ and Na$_2$IrO$_3$, having an effective $S$=1/2 spin value. Here, via extensive first-principle-based simulations, we report the investigation of the Kitaev physics and possible Kitaev QSL state in epitaxially strained Cr-based monolayers, such as CrSiTe$_3$, that rather possess a $S$=3/2 spin value. Our study thus extends the playground of Kitaev physics and QSLs to 3$d$ transition metal compounds.
We have studied the spin anisotropy in spin-singlet ground state compounds and the magnetic chirality, as measured by inelastic polarized neutron scattering techniques, in the chain-sublattice of Sr14Cu24O41. In-plane and out of plane magnetic fluctuations are measured to be anisotropic and further discussed in the light of the current hypothesis of spin-orbit coupling. We show that under appropriate conditions of magnetic field and neutron polarization, the textit{trivial} magnetic chirality selects only one of the Zeeman splitted triplet states for scattering and erases the other one that posses opposite helicity. Our analysis pertains to previous studies on dynamical magnetic chirality and chiral critical exponents, where the ground state is chiral itself, the so-called textit{non-trivial} dynamical magnetic chirality. As it turns out, both textit{trivial} and textit{non-trivial} dynamical magnetic chirality have identical selection rules for inelastic polarized neutron scattering experiments and it is not at all evident that they can be distinguished in a paramagnetic compound.
We report magnetotransport measurements of fractional quantum Hall states in an AlAs quantum well around Landau level filling factor nu = 3/2, demonstrating that the quasiparticles are composite Fermions (CFs) with a valley degree of freedom. By monitoring the valley level crossings for these states as a function of applied symmetry-breaking strain, we determine the CF valley susceptibility and polarization. The data can be explained well by a simple Landau level fan diagram for CFs, and are in nearly quantitative agreement with the results reported for CF spin polarization.
We investigate quantum phase transitions and quantum coherence in infinite biquadratic spin-1 and -2 XY chains with rhombic single-ion anisotropy. All considered coherence measures such as the $l_1$ norm of coherence, the relative entropy of coherence, and the quantum Jensen-Shannon divergence, and the quantum mutual information show consistently that singular behaviors occur for the spin-1 system, which enables to identity quantum phase transitions. For the spin-2 system, the relative entropy of coherence and the quantum mutual information properly detect no singular behavior in the whole system parameter range, while the $l_1$ norm of coherence and the quantum Jensen-Shannon divergence show a conflicting singular behavior of their first-order derivatives. Examining local magnetic moments and spin quadrupole moments lead to the explicit identification of novel orderings of spin quadrupole moments with zero magnetic moments in the whole parameter space. We find the three uniaxial spin nematic quadrupole phases for the spin-1 system and the two biaxial spin nematic phases for the spin-2 system. For the spin-2 system, the two orthogonal biaxial spin nematic states are connected adiabatically without an explicit phase transition, which can be called quantum crossover. The quantum crossover region is estimated by using the quantum fidelity. Whereas for the spin-1 system, the two discontinuous quantum phase transitions occur between three distinct uniaxial spin nematic phases. We discuss the quantum coherence measures and the quantum mutual information in connection with the quantum phase transitions including the quantum crossover.
