N=4 Poincare supergravity has a global SU(1,1) duality symmetry that acts manifestly only on shell as it involves duality rotations of vector fields. A U(1) subgroup of this symmetry is known to be anomalous at the quantum level in the presence of a non-trivial gravitational background. We first derive this anomaly from a novel perspective, by relating it to a similar anomaly in conformal supergravity where SU(1,1) acts off shell, using the fact that N=4 Poincare supergravity has a superconformal formulation. We explicitly construct the corresponding local and nonlocal anomalous terms in the one-loop effective action. We then study how this anomaly is reflected in the supergravity S-matrix. Calculating one-loop N=4 supergravity scattering amplitudes (with and without additional matter multiplets) using color/kinematics duality and the double-copy construction we find that a particular U(1) symmetry which was present in the tree-level amplitudes is broken at the quantum level. This breaking manifests itself in the appearance of new one-loop N=4 supergravity amplitudes that have non-vanishing soft-scalar limits (these amplitudes are absent in N>4 supergravities). We discuss the relation between these symmetry-violating amplitudes and the corresponding U(1) anomalous term in the one-loop supergravity effective action.

We put forward a unimodular $N=1, d=4$ anti-de Sitter supergravity theory off shell. This theory, where the Cosmological Constant does not couple to gravity, has a unique maximally supersymmetric classical vacuum which is Anti-de Sitter spacetime with radius given by the equation of motion of the auxiliary scalar field, ie, $S=frac{3}{kappa L}$. However, we see that the non-supersymmetric classical vacua of the unimodular theory are Minkowski and de Sitter spacetimes as well as anti-de Sitter spacetime with radius $l eq L$.
We study N = 2* theories with gauge group U(N) and use equivariant localization to calculate the quantum expectation values of the simplest chiral ring elements. These are expressed as an expansion in the mass of the adjoint hypermultiplet, with coefficients given by quasi-modular forms of the S-duality group. Under the action of this group, we construct combinations of chiral ring elements that transform as modular forms of definite weight. As an independent check, we confirm these results by comparing the spectral curves of the associated Hitchin system and the elliptic Calogero-Moser system. We also propose an exact and compact expression for the 1-instanton contribution to the expectation value of the chiral ring elements.
We formulate a unimodular N=1, d=4 supergravity theory off shell. We see that the infinitesimal Grassmann parameters defining the unimodular supergravity transformations are constrained and show that the conmutator of two infinitesinal unimodular supergravity transformations closes on transverse diffeomorphisms, Lorentz transformations and unimodular supergravity transformations. Along the way, we also show that the linearized theory is a supersymmetric theory of gravitons and gravitinos. We see that de Sitter and anti-de Sitter spacetimes are non-supersymmetric vacua of our unimodular supergravity theory.
In this letter we compute the exact effective superpotential of {cal N}=1 U(N) supersymmetric gauge theories with N_f fundamental flavors and an arbitrary tree-level polynomial superpotential for the adjoint Higgs field. We use the matrix model approach in the maximally confinig phase. When restricted to the case of a tree-level even polynomial superpotential, our computation reproduces the known result of the SU(N) theory.
In this note, I describe the space of vacua $mathcal{V}$ of four dimensional $mathcal{N}=4$ SYM on $mathbb{R}^4$ with gauge group a compact simple Lie Group $G$ as a stratified space. On each stratum, the low energy effective field theory is different. This language allows one to make precise the idea of moving in the space of vacua $mathcal{V}$. A particular subset of the strata of $mathcal{N}=4$ SYM can be efficiently described using the theory of sheets in a Lie algebra. For these strata, I study the conjectural action of S-duality. I also indicate some benefits of using such a language for the study of the available space of vacua $overline{mathcal{V}}$ on the boundary of GL twisted $mathcal{N}=4$ SYM on a half-space $mathbb{R}^3 times mathbb{R}^+$. As an application of boundary symmetry breaking, I indicate how a) the Local Nilpotent Cone arises as part of the available symmetry breaking choices on the boundary of the four dimensional theory and b) the Global Nilpotent Cone arises in the theory reduced down to two dimensions on a Riemann Surface $C$. These geometries play a critical role in the Local and Global Geometric Langlands Program(s).
