We present dynamic nuclear polarization (DNP) in the simplest pseudospin quantum Hall ferromagnet (QHF) of an InSb two-dimensional electron gas with a large g factor using tilted magnetic fields. The DNP-induced amplitude change of a resistance spike of the QHF at large current enables observation of the resistively detected nuclear magnetic resonance of the high nuclear spin isotope 115In with nine quadrupole splittings. Our results demonstrate the importance of domain structures in the DNP process. The nuclear spin relaxation time T1 in this QHF was relatively short (~ 120 s), and almost temperature independent.

Time-resolved optical measurements of electron-spin dynamics in a (110) GaAs quantum well are used to study the consequences of a strongly anisotropic electron g-tensor, and the origin of previously discovered all-optical nuclear magnetic resonance. All components of the g-tensor are measured, and a strong anisotropy even along the in-plane directions is found. The amplitudes of the spin signal allow the study of the spatial directions of the injected spin and its precession axis. Surprisingly efficient dynamic nuclear polarization in a geometry where the electron spins are injected almost transverse to the applied magnetic field is attributed to an enhanced non-precessing electron spin component. The small absolute value of the electron g-factor combined with efficient nuclear spin polarization leads to large nuclear fields that dominate electron spin precession at low temperatures. These effects allow for sensitive detection of all-optical nuclear magnetic resonance induced by periodically excited quantum-well electrons. The mechanism of previously observed Delta m = 2 transitions is investigated and found to be attributable to electric quadrupole coupling, whereas Delta m = 1 transitions show signatures of both quadrupole and electron-spin induced magnetic dipole coupling.
We theoretically investigate the controlled dynamic polarization of lattice nuclear spins in GaAs double quantum dots containing two electrons. Three regimes of long-term dynamics are identified, including the build up of a large difference in the Overhauser fields across the dots, the saturation of the nuclear polarization process associated with formation of so-called dark states, and the elimination of the difference field. We show that in the case of unequal dots, build up of difference fields generally accompanies the nuclear polarization process, whereas for nearly identical dots, build up of difference fields competes with polarization saturation in dark states. The elimination of the difference field does not, in general, correspond to a stable steady state of the polarization process.

We study pumping of charge in a 2DEG in the quantum Hall regime at filling factor $ u = 2$ (2 spin-split levels of the lowest Landau level). For pumping frequencies that match the Zeeman energy splitting, quantum pumping together with hyperfine interaction between electrons and nuclei induces transitions between the spin-split levels. These lead to a step-like change in the pumped current and to polarization of the nuclei. We present quantitative predictions for both. Our model provides the first quantitative tool to both control and measure the amount of local nuclear polarization in a 2DEG.
A scenario of quantum computing process based on the manipulation of a large number of nuclear spins in Quantum Hall (QH) ferromagnet is presented. It is found that vacuum quantum fluctuations in the QH ferromagnetic ground state at filling factor $ u =1$, associated with the virtual excitations of spin waves, lead to fast incomplete decoherence of the nuclear spins. A fundamental upper bound on the length of the computer memory is set by this fluctuation effect.
A coherent superposition of many nuclear spin states can be prepared and manipulated via the hyperfine interaction with the electronic spins by varying the Landau level filling factor through the gate voltage in appropriately designed Quantum Hall Ferromagnet. During the manipulation periods the 2D electron system forms spatially large Skyrmionic spin textures, where many nuclear spins follow locally the electron spin polarization. It is shown that the collective spin rotation of a single spin texture is gapless in the limit of zero Zeeman splitting, and may dominate the nuclear spins relaxation and decoherence processes in the quantum well.
