Thermodynamic and structural properties of the tangent diatomic fluid are studied in the framework provided by the Reference Interaction Site Model (RISM) theory, coupled with a Modified Hypernetted Chain closure. The enforcement of the internal thermodynamic consistency of the theory is described in detail. The results we obtain almost quantitatively agree with available or newly generated simulation data. We envisage the possibility to extend the consistent RISM formalism to generic, more realistic molecular fluids.

We investigate thermodynamic properties of anisotropic colloidal dumbbells in the frameworks provided by the Reference Interaction Site Model (RISM) theory and an Optimized Perturbation Theory (OPT), this latter based on a fourth-order high-temperature perturbative expansion of the free energy, recently generalized to molecular fluids. Our model is constituted by two identical tangent hard spheres surrounded by square-well attractions with same widths and progressively different depths. Gas-liquid coexistence curves are obtained by predicting pressures, free energies, and chemical potentials. In comparison with previous simulation results, RISM and OPT agree in reproducing the progressive reduction of the gas-liquid phase separation as the anisotropy of the interaction potential becomes more pronounced; in particular, the RISM theory provides reasonable predictions for all coexistence curves, bar the strong anisotropy regime, whereas OPT performs generally less well. Both theories predict a linear dependence of the critical temperature on the interaction strength, reproducing in this way the mean-field behavior observed in simulations; the critical density~--~that drastically drops as the anisotropy increases~--~turns to be less accurate. Our results appear as a robust benchmark for further theoretical studies, in support to the simulation approach, of self-assembly in model colloidal systems.

We give the alternative formulation of quasiparticle model of quark gluon plasma with medium dependent dispersion relation. The model is thermodynamically consistent provided the medium dependent contribution to the energy density is taken in to account. We establish the connection of our model with other variants of quasiparticle models which are thermodynamically consistent. We test the model by comparing the equation of state with the lattice gauge theory simulations of SU(3) pure gluodynamics .
The Na$^+$/K$^+$ ATPase is an essential component of cardiac electrophysiology, maintaining physiological Na$^+$ and K$^+$ concentrations over successive heart beats. Terkildsen et al. (2007) developed a model of the ventricular myocyte Na$^+$/K$^+$ ATPase to study extracellular potassium accumulation during ischaemia, demonstrating the ability to recapitulate a wide range of experimental data, but unfortunately there was no archived code associated with the original manuscript. Here we detail an updated version of the model and provide CellML and MATLAB code to ensure reproducibility and reusability. We note some errors within the original formulation which have been corrected to ensure that the model is thermodynamically consistent, and although this required some reparameterisation, the resulting model still provides a good fit to experimental measurements that demonstrate the dependence of Na$^+$/K$^+$ ATPase pumping rate upon membrane voltage and metabolite concentrations. To demonstrate thermodynamic consistency we also developed a bond graph version of the model. We hope that these models will be useful for community efforts to assemble a whole-cell cardiomyocyte model which facilitates the investigation of cellular energetics.
The phi4 scalar field theory in three dimensions, prototype for the study of phase transitions, is investigated by means of the hierarchical reference theory (HRT) in its smooth cutoff formulation. The critical behavior is described by scaling laws and critical exponents which compare favorably with the known values of the Ising universality class. The inverse susceptibility vanishes identically inside the coexistence curve, providing a first principle implementation of the Maxwell construction, and shows the expected discontinuity across the phase boundary, at variance with the usual sharp cutoff implementation of HRT. The correct description of first and second order phase transitions within a microscopic, nonperturbative approach is thus achieved in the smooth cutoff HRT.
We study numerically the phase-ordering kinetics of the two-dimensional site-diluted Ising model. The data can be interpreted in a framework motivated by renormalization-group concepts. Apart from the usual fixed point of the non-diluted system, there exist two disorder fixed points, characterized by logarithmic and power-law growth of the ordered domains. This structure gives rise to a rich scaling behavior, with an interesting crossover due to the competition between fixed points, and violation of superuniversality.
