Strange quark contributions to neutrino(antineutrino) scattering are investigated on the nucleon level in the quasi-elastic region. The incident energy range between 500 MeV and 1.0 GeV is used for the scattering. All of the physical observable by the scattering are investigated within available experimental and theoretical results for the strangeness form factors of the nucleon. In specific, a newly combined data of parity violating electron scattering and neutrino scattering is exploited. Feasible quantities to be explored for the strangeness contents are discussed for the application to neutrino-nucleus scattering.

Possibilities to extract information on the strange form factors of the nucleon from neutrino (antineutrino) inelastic scattering on nuclei, in an energy range from 200 MeV to 1 GeV and more, are investigated in detail. All calculations are performed within two relativistic independent particle models (Fermi gas and shell model); the final state interactions of the ejected nucleon are taken into account through relativistic optical model potentials. We have shown that the values of the cross sections significantly depend on the nuclear model (especially in the lower energy range). However the NC/CC neutrino-antineutrino asymmetry in a medium--high energy range shows a rather small dependence on the model and allows to disentangle different values of the parameters that characterize the strange form factors. We have calculated also the ratio of the cross sections for inelastic NC scattering of neutrinos on nuclei, with the emission of a proton and of a neutron. Our calculations show that this ratio depends rather weakly on the nuclear model and confirm previous conclusions on the rather strong dependence of this ratio upon the axial strange form factors.
Effects of the in-medium modifications of nucleon form factors on neutrino interaction in dense matter are presented by considering both the weak and electromagnetic interactions of neutrinos with the constituents of the matter. A relativistic mean field and the quark-meson coupling models are respectively adopted for the effective nucleon mass and in-medium nucleon form factors. We calculate the cross-section of neutrino scattering as well as the neutrino mean free path. We found the cross sections of neutrino scattering in cold nuclear medium decreases when the in-medium modifications of the nucleon weak and electromagnetic form factors are taken into account. This reduction results in the enhancement of the neutrino mean free path, in particular at the baryon density of around a few times of the normal nuclear matter density.
The strange quark contributions to the electromagnetic form factors of the proton are ideal quantities to study the role of hidden flavor in the properties of the proton. This has motivated intense experimental measurements of these form factors. A major remaining source of systematic uncertainty in these determinations is the assumption that charge symmetry violation (CSV) is negligible. We use recent theoretical determinations of the CSV form factors and reanalyse the available parity-violating electron scattering data, up to $Q^2$ $sim$ 1 GeV$^2$. Our analysis considers systematic expansions of the strangeness electric and magnetic form factors of the proton. The results provide an update to the determination of strangeness over a range of $Q^2$ where, under certain assumptions about the effective axial form factor, an emergence of non-zero strangeness is revealed in the vicinity of $Q^2$ $sim$ 0.6 GeV$^2$. Given the recent theoretical calculations, it is found that the current limits on CSV do not have a significant impact on the interpretation of the measurements and hence suggests an opportunity for a next generation of parity-violating measurements to more precisely map the distribution of strange quarks.
The calculation of the nucleon strangeness form factors from N_f=2+1 clover fermion lattice QCD is presented. Disconnected insertions are evaluated using the Z(4) stochastic method, along with unbiased subtractions from the hopping parameter expansion. We find that increasing the number of nucleon sources for each configuration improves the signal significantly. We obtain G_M^s(0) = -0.017(25)(07), which is consistent with experimental values, and has an order of magnitude smaller error. Preliminary results for the strangeness contribution to the second moment of the parton distribution function are also presented.
We calculate the ratio of proton and neutron yields in NC induced neutrino(antineutrino)-nucleus inelastic scattering at neutrino energies of about 1 GeV. We show that this ratio depends very weakly on the nuclear models employed and that in the neutrino and antineutrino cases the ratios have different sensitivity to the axial and vector strange form factors; moreover, the ratio of antineutrino--nucleus cross sections turns out to be rather sensitive to the electric strange form factor. We demonstrate that measurements of these ratios will allow to get information on the strange form factors of the nucleon in the region Q > 0.4 GeV^2.
