We investigate the emergence of supersymmetric negative-vacuum-energy ground states in four dimensions. First, we rely on the analysis of the effective superpotential, which depends on the background fluxes of the internal manifold, or equivalently has its origin in the underlying gauged supergravity. Four-dimensional, supersymmetric anti-de Sitter vacua with all moduli stabilized appear when appropriate Ramond and Neveu--Schwarz fluxes are introduced in IIA. Geometric fluxes are not necessary. Then the whole setup is analyzed from the perspective of the sources, namely D/NS-branes or Kaluza--Klein monopoles. Orientifold planes are also required for tadpole cancellation. The solutions found in four dimensions correspond to domain walls interpolating between AdS4 and flat spacetime. The various consistency conditions (equations of motion, Bianchi identities and tadpole cancellation conditions) are always satisfied, albeit with source terms. We also speculate on the possibility of assigning (formal) entropies to AdS4 flux vacua via the corresponding dual brane systems.

We construct AdS$_4$ flux vacua of type IIA string theory in the supergravity (large volume, small $g_s$) regime, including the backreaction of O6-planes. Our solutions are the localiz
Exact analytic solutions of static, stable, non-planar BPS domain wall junctions are obtained in extended Abelian-Higgs models in $(D+1)$-dimensional spacetime. For specific choice of mass parameters, the Lagrangian is invariant under the symmetric group ${cal S}_{D+1}$ of degree $D+1$ spontaneously broken down to ${cal S}_D$ in vacua, admitting ${cal S}_{D+1}/{cal S}_D$ domain wall junctions. In $D=2$, there are three vacua and three domain walls meeting at a junction point, in which the conventional topological charges $Y$ and $Z$ exist for the BPS domain wall junctions and the BPS domain walls, respectively as known before. In $D=3$, there are four vacua, six domain walls, four junction lines on which three domain walls meet, and one junction point on which all the six domain walls meet. We define a new topological charge $X$ for the junction point in addition to the conventional topological charges $Y$ and $Z$. In general dimensions, we find that the configuration expressed in the $D$-dimensional real space is dual to a regular $D$-simplex in the $D$-dimensional internal space and that a $d$-dimensional subsimplex of the regular $D$-simplex corresponds to a $(D-d)$-dimensional intersection. Topological charges are generalized to the level-$d$ wall charge $W_d$ for the $d$-dimensional subsimplexes.

We consider random superstrings of type IIB in $d$-dimensional space. The discretized action is constructed from the supersymetric matrix model, which has been proposed as a constructive definition of superstring theory. Our action is invariant under the local N=2 super transformations, and doesnt have any redundant fermionic degrees of freedom.
We find non-supersymmetric AdS$_8$ solutions of type IIA supergravity. The internal space is topologically an $S^2$ with a U(1) isometry. The only non-zero flux is $F_0$; an O8 sourcing it is present at the equator of the $S^2$. The warping function and dilaton are non-constant. It is also possible to add D8-branes on top of the O8. Possible destabilizing brane bubbles (whose presence would be suggested by the weak-gravity conjecture) are either absent or collapsing. Our solutions are candidate holographic duals to unitary interacting CFTs in seven dimensions with exceptional global symmetry. We also present analogous non-supersymmetric AdS$_{d}$ solutions for general $d$ which are supported only by $F_0$.
We present the simplest model for classical transitions in flux vacua. A complex field with a spontaneously broken U(1) symmetry is embedded in $M_2times S_1$. We numerically construct different winding number vacua, the vortices interpolating between them, and simulate the collisions of these vortices. We show that classical transitions are generic at large boosts, independent of whether or not vortices miss each other in the compact $S_1$.
