Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is the commonest cancer in fair-skinned adults, and it can result in extensive morbidity through local recurrence and destruction more than 750000 new cases are diagnosed in the world annually, and the incidence is risin g. To our knowledge, a distinct information about BCC in Syrian population is scarce. This study was performed in dermatology hospital of the university of Damascus between 1-1-1997 and 1-1-1999. A total of 255 cases of histologically-confirmed BCC 's were studied. Our results showed the most significant characteristics of BCC in Syria: 67.1% of patients were men, while 32.9% were women. The median age was 58.9. the part most frequently involved was the central face (45.5%), while the trunk and extremities were involved in (7%). Multiple BCC was found in 7.7%. The most common histologic types of BCC were: circumscribed solid (45.4%), adenoid (13.3%), and invasive solid (12.5%).
