We analyze Tevatron data of bottomonium hadroproduction in the framework of the colour-octet model (COM) implemented in the event generator PYTHIA using CTEQ4L PDF taking into account initial-state radiation of gluons and Altarelli-Parisi evolution of final-state gluons. We obtain new values for the colour-octet matrix elements relevant to this production process for the Upsilon(nS) family (n=1,2,3), finding that the ^1S_0^{(8)}+^3P_J^{(8)} contributions are not needed in the fit. We show the different contributions to Upsilon(1S) production at Tevatron for p_T>8 GeV, comparing them with CDF data. Finally we extrapolate to LHC energies to predict Upsilon(nS) production rates.

The shapes of invariant differential cross section for charged particle production as function of transverse momentum measured in heavy-ion collisions are analyzed. The data measured at RHIC and LHC are treated as function of energy density according to a recent theoretical approach. The Boltzmann-like statistical distribution is extracted from the whole statistical ensemble of produced hadrons using the introduced model. Variation of the temperature, characterizing this exponential distribution, is studied as function of energy density.
We propose a novel mechanism for the production of the Higgs boson in inclusive hadronic collisions, which utilizes the presence of heavy quarks in the proton wave function. In these inclusive reactions the Higgs boson acquires the momenta of both th e heavy quark and antiquark and thus carries 80% or more of the projectiles momentum. We predict that the cross section ${d sigma/d x_F}(p bar p to H X)$ for the inclusive production of the Standard Model Higgs coming from intrinsic bottom Fock states is of order 150 fb at LHC energies, peaking in the region of $x_F sim 0.9$. Our estimates indicate that the corresponding cross section coming from gluon-gluon fusion at $x_F = 0.9$ is relatively negligible and therefore the peak from intrinsic bottom should be clearly visible for experiments with forward detection capabilities. The predicted cross section for the production of the Standard Model Higgs coming from intrinsic heavy quark Fock states in the proton is sufficiently large that detection at the Tevatron and the LHC may be possible.
We compare the theoretical status and the numerical predictions of two approaches for heavy quark production in the high energy hadron collisions, namely the conventional LO parton model with collinear approximation and $k_T$-factorization approach. The main assumptions used in the calculations are discussed. To extract the differences coming from the matrix elements we use very simple gluon structure function and fixed coupling. It is shown that the $k_T$-factorization approach calculated formally in LO and with Sudakov form factor accounts for many contributions related usually to NLO (and even NNLO) processes of the conventional parton model
We extend our previous analysis on inclusive heavy quarkonia hadroproduction to the whole Upsilon(nS) (n=1,2,3) resonance family. We use a Monte Carlo framework with the colour-octet mechanism implemented in the PYTHIA event generator. We include in our study higher order QCD effects such as initial-state emission of gluons and Altarelli-Parisi evolution of final-state gluons. We extract some NRQCD colour-octet matrix elements relevant for Upsilon(nS) (n=1,2,3) hadroproduction from CDF data at the Fermilab Tevatron. Then we extrapolate to LHC energies to predict prompt bottomonia production rates. Finally, we examine the prospect to probe the gluon density in protons from heavy quarkonia inclusive hadroproduction at high transverse momentum and its feasibility in LHC general-purpose experiments.
Quarkonium production in proton-proton collision is interesting in profiling the partons inside the nucleon. Recently, the impact of double parton scatterings (DPSs) was suggested by experimental data of associated quarkonium production (J/psi+Z, J/p si+W, and J/psi+J/psi) at the LHC and Tevatron, in addition to single parton scatterings (SPSs). In this proceedings contribution, we review the extraction of the effective parameter of the DPS through the evaluation of the SPS contributions under quark-hadron duality.
