In this paper, we consider the spectral dependences of transverse electromagnetic waves generated in solar plasma at coalescence of Langmuir waves. It is shown that different spectra of Langmuir waves lead to characteristic types of transversal electromagnetic wave spectra, what makes it possible to diagnose the features of the spectra of Langmuir waves generated in solar plasma.

Type-III-burst radio signals can be mimicked in the laboratory via laser-plasma interaction. Instead of an electron beam generating Langmuir waves (LW) in the interplanetary medium, the LWs are created by a laser interacting with a millimeter-sized p lasma through the stimulated Raman instability. In both cases, the LWs feed the Langmuir decay instability which scatters them in several directions. The resulting LWs may couple to form electromagnetic emission at twice the plasma frequency, which has been detected in the interplanetary medium, and recently in a laboratory laser experiment [Marqu`es et al. Phys. Rev. Lett. 124, 135001 (2020)]. This article presents the first numerical analysis of this laser configuration using particle-in-cell simulations, providing details on the wave spectra that are too difficult to measure in experiments. The role of some parameters is addressed, with a focus on laser intensity, in order to illustrate the behavior of the electromagnetic emissions angular distribution and polarization.
A nonlinear kinetic equation for nonrelativistic quantum plasma with electromagnetic interaction of particles is obtained in the Hartrees mean-field approximation. It is cast in a convenient form of Vlasov-Boltzmann-type equation with quantum interfe rence integral, that allows for relatively straightforward modification of existing classical Vlasov codes to incorporate quantum effects (quantum statistics and quantum interference of overlapping particles wave functions), without changing the bulk of the codes. Such modification (upgrade) of existing Vlasov codes may provide a direct and effective path to numerical simulations of nonlinear electrostatic and electromagnetic phenomena in quantum plasmas, especially of processes where kinetic effects are important (e.g., modulational interactions and stimulated scattering phenomena involving plasma modes at short wavelengths or high-order kinetic modes, dynamical screening and interaction of charges in quantum plasma, etc.) Moreover, numerical approaches involving such modified Vlasov codes would provide a useful basis for theoretical analyses of quantum plasmas, as quantum and classical effects can be easily separated there.

The impact of stochasticity effects (SEs) in photon emissions on the proton energy spectra during laser-plasma interaction is theoretically investigated in the quantum radiation-dominated regime, which may facilitate SEs experimental observation. We calculate the photon emissions quantum mechanically and the plasma dynamics semiclassically via two-dimensional particle-in-cell simulations. An ultrarelativistic plasma generated and driven by an ultraintense laser pulse head-on collides with another strong laser pulse, which decelerates the electrons due to radiation-reaction effect and results in a significant compression of the proton energy spectra because of the charge separation force. In the considered regime the SEs are demonstrated in the shift of the mean energy of the protons up to hundreds of MeV. This effect is robust with respect to the laser and target parameters and measurable in soon available strong laser facilities.
The three-dimensional instability of two coupled electromagnetic waves in an unmagnetized plasma is investigated theoretically and numerically. In the regime of two-plasmon decay, where one pump wave frequency is approximately twice the electron plas ma frequency, we find that the coupled pump waves give rise to enhanced instability with wave vectors between those of the two beams. In the case of ion parametric decay instability, where the pump wave decays into one Langmuir wave and one ion acoustic wave, the instability regions are added with no distinct amplification. Our investigation can be useful in interpreting laser-plasma as well as ionospheric heating experiments.
We show both theoretically and experimentally that an electromagnetic wave can be totally absorbed by an overdense plasma when a subwavelength diffraction grating is placed in front of the plasma surface. The absorption is due to dissipation of surfa ce plasma waves (plasmons-polaritons) that have been resonantly excited by the evanescent component of the diffracted electromagnetic wave. The developed theoretical model allows one to determine the conditions for the total absorption.
