Far-from-equilibrium dynamics of SU(2) gauge theory with Wilson fermions is studied in 1+1 space-time dimensions using a real-time lattice approach. Lattice improved Hamiltonians are shown to be very efficient in simulating Schwinger pair creation and emergent phenomena such as plasma oscillations. As a consequence, significantly smaller lattices can be employed to approach continuum physics in the infinite-volume limit as compared to unimproved implementations. This allows us to compute also higher-order correlation functions including four fermion fields, which give unprecedented insights into the real-time dynamics of the fragmentation process of strings between fermions and antifermions.

We consider the string breaking phenomenon within effective string models which purport to mimic QCD with two light flavors, with a special attention to baryon modes. We make some estimates of the string breaking distances at zero and non-zero baryon chemical potentials. Our estimates point towards the enhancement of baryon production in strong decays of heavy mesons in dense baryonic matter. We also suggest that the enhanced production of $Lambda_c^+$ baryons in PbPb collisions is mainly due to larger values of chemical potential.

We study the non-perturbative production of gluon pairs from a constant SU(3) chromo-electric background field via the Schwinger mechanism. We fix the covariant background gauge with an arbitrary gauge parameter alpha. We determine the transverse mom entum distribution of the gluons, as well as the total probability of creating pairs per unit space time volume. We find that the result is independent of the covariant gauge parameter alpha used to define arbitrary covariant background gauges. We find that our non-perturbative result is both gauge invariant and gauge parameter alpha independent.

The string breaking phenomenon in QCD can be studied using the gauge/string duality. In this approach, one can make estimates of some of the string breaking distances at non-zero temperature and baryon chemical potential. These point towards the enha ncement of baryon production in strong decays of heavy mesons in dense baryonic medium.

Making use of the gauge/string duality, it is possible to study some aspects of the string breaking phenomenon in the three quark system. Our results point out that the string breaking distance is not universal and depends on quark geometry. The esti mates of the ratio of the string breaking distance in the three quark system to that in the quark-antiquark system would range approximately from $frac{2}{3}$ to $1$. In addition, it is shown that there are special geometries which allow more than one breaking distance.

We perform the Monte Carlo study of the SU(3) non-Abelian Higgs model. We discuss phase structure and non-Abelian vortices by gauge invariant operators. External magnetic fields induce non-Abelian vortices in the color-flavor locked phase. The spatia l distribution of non-Abelian vortices suggests the repulsive vortex-vortex interaction.
