The outlook of a simple method to generate localized (soliton-like) potentials of time-dependent Schrodinger type equations is given. The conditions are discussed for the potentials to be real and nonsingular. For the derivative Schrodinger equation also is discussed its relation to the Ishimori-II model. Some pecular soliton solutions of nonlinear Schrodinger type equations are given and discussed.

We study the formation of extreme events in incoherent systems described by envelope equations, such as the Nonliner Schrodinger equation. We derive an identity that relates the evolution of the kurtosis (a measure of the relevance of the tails in a probability density function) of the wave amplitude to the rate of change of the width of the Fourier spectrum of the wave field. The result is exact for all dispersive systems characterized by a nonlinear term of the form of the one contained in the Nonlinear Schrodinger equation. Numerical simulations are also performed to confirm our findings. Our work sheds some light on the origin of rogue waves in incoherent dispersive nonlinear media ruled by local cubic nonlinearity.
We update our understanding of nonlinear Schrodinger equations motivated through information theory. In particular we show that a $q-$deformation of the basic nonlinear equation leads to a perturbative increase in the energy of a system, thus favouri ng the simplest $q=1$ case. Furthermore the energy minimisation criterion is shown to be equivalent, at leading order, to an uncertainty maximisation argument. The special value $eta =1/4$ for the interpolation parameter, where leading order energy shifts vanish, implies the preservation of existing supersymmetry in nonlinearised supersymmetric quantum mechanics. Physically, $eta$ might be encoding relativistic effects.

We consider an integrable generalization of the nonlinear Schrodinger (NLS) equation that was recently derived by one of the authors using bi-Hamiltonian methods. This equation is related to the NLS equation in the same way that the Camassa Holm equa tion is related to the KdV equation. In this paper we: (a) Use the bi-Hamiltonian structure to write down the first few conservation laws. (b) Derive a Lax pair. (c) Use the Lax pair to solve the initial value problem. (d) Analyze solitons.

We analyze initial-boundary value problems for an integrable generalization of the nonlinear Schrodinger equation formulated on the half-line. In particular, we investigate the so-called linearizable boundary conditions, which in this case are of Rob in type. Furthermore, we use a particular solution to verify explicitly all the steps needed for the solution of a well-posed problem.

An integrable anisotropic Heisenberg spin chain with nearest-neighbour couplings, next-nearest-neighbour couplings and scalar chirality terms is constructed. After proving the integrability, we obtain the exact solution of the system. The ground stat e and the elementary excitations are also studied. It is shown that the spinon excitation of the present model possesses a novel triple arched structure. The elementary excitation is gapless if the anisotropic parameter $eta$ is real while the elementary excitation has an enhanced gap by the next-nearest-neighbour and chiral three-spin interactions if the anisotropic parameter $eta$ is imaginary. The method of this paper provides a general way to construct new integrable models with next-nearest-neighbour interactions.
