The intrinsic decay rate of orthopositronium formed in ${rm SiO_2}$ powder is measured using the direct $2gamma$ correction method such that the time dependence of the pick-off annihilation rate is precisely determined. The decay rate of orthopositronium is found to be $7.0396pm0.0012 (stat.)pm0.0011 (sys.)mu s^{-1}$, which is consistent with our previous measurements with about twice the accuracy. Results agree well with the $O(alpha^2)$ QED prediction, and also with a result reported very recently using nanoporous film.

Positronium is an ideal system for the research of the bound state QED. New precise measurement of orthopositronium decay rate has been performed with an accuracy of 150 ppm. This result is consistent with the last three results and also the 2nd orde r correction. The result combined with the last three is 7.0401$pm0.0007mu mathrm{sec}^{-1}$ (100 ppm), which is consistent with the 2nd order correction and differs from the 1st order calculation by 2.6$sigma$ It is the first test to validate the 2nd order correction.

With the example of the 229Th nucleus, which is the most likely candidate for the creation frequency standard of a future, the dynamics of the interplay and the relationship of various resonance conversion mechanisms is analyzed. As a result, a solut ion is proposed for the so-called thorium puzzle, which consisted of a contradiction between the experimental and theoretical lifetimes of Th+ ions. First, the solution demonstrates the dependence of the lifetime of the nuclear isomer on the ambient conditions. Second, it demonstrates the leveling role of the fragmentation of the single-electron levels, which makes the resonance amplification of the electron-nuclear interaction more likely. Both of these trends lead to a probable decrease of the theoretical lifetime towards agreement with experiment.

The proton size, specifically its charge radius, was thought known to about 1% accuracy. Now a new method probing the proton with muons instead of electrons finds a radius about 4% smaller, and to boot gives an uncertainty limit of about 0.1%. We rev iew the different measurements, some of the calculations that underlie them, some of the suggestions that have been made to resolve the conflict, and give a brief overview new related experimental initiatives. At present, however, the resolution to the problem remains unknown.
We argue that the s-channel cut contribution to J/psi hadroproduction can be significantly larger than the usual cut contribution of the color-singlet mechanism, which is known to underestimate the experimental measurements. A scenario accounting for intermediate $cbar(c)$ interactions is proposed that reproduces the data at low- and mid-range transverse momenta P_T from the Fermilab Tevatron and BNL Relativistiv Heavy Ion Collider. The J/psi produced in this manner are polarized predominantly longitudinally.
We introduce a set of clockwork models of flavor that can naturally explain the large hierarchies of the Standard Model quark masses and mixing angles. Since the clockwork only contains chains of new vector-like fermions without any other dynamical f ields, the flavor constraints allow for relatively light new physics scale. For two benchmarks with gear masses just above 1 TeV, allowed by flavor constraints, we discuss the collider searches and the possible ways of reconstructing gear spectra at the LHC. We also examine the similarities and differences with the other common solutions to the SM flavor puzzle, i.e., with the Froggatt-Nielsen models, where we identify a new {it clockworked } version, and with the Randall-Sundrum models.
