We present Monte Carlo simulation results on the equilibrium relaxation of the two dimensional lattice Coulomb gas with fractional charges, which exhibits a close analogy to the primary relaxation of fragile supercooled liquids. Single particle and collective relaxation dynamics show that the Stokes-Einstein relation is violated at low temperatures, which can be characterized by a fractional power law relation between the self-diffusion coefficient and the characteristic relaxation time. The microscopic spatially heterogeneous structure responsible for the violation is identified.

We present Monte Carlo simulation results on the equilibrium relaxation dynamics in the two dimensional lattice Coulomb gas, where finite fraction $f$ of the lattice sites are occupied by positive charges. In the case of high order rational values of $f$ close to the irrational number $1-g$ ($gequiv(sqrt{5} -1)/2$ is the golden mean), we find that the system exhibits, for wide range of temperatures above the first-order transition, a glassy behavior resembling the primary relaxation of supercooled liquids. Single particle diffusion and structural relaxation show that there exists a breakdown of proportionality between the time scale of diffusion and that of structural relaxation analogous to the violation of the Stokes-Einstein relation in supercooled liquids. Suitably defined dynamic cooperativity is calculated to exhibit the characteristic nature of dynamic heterogeneity present in the system.
We generalize to higher spatial dimensions the Stokes--Einstein relation (SER) and the leading correction to diffusivity in periodic systems, and validate them using numerical simulations. Using these results, we investigate the evolution of the SER violation with dimension in simple hard sphere glass formers. The analysis suggests that the SER violation disappears around dimension d=8, above which SER is not violated. The critical exponent associated to the violation appears to evolve linearly in 8-d below d=8, as predicted by Biroli and Bouchaud [J. Phys.: Cond. Mat. 19, 205101 (2007)], but the linear coefficient is not consistent with their prediction. The SER violation evolution with d establishes a new benchmark for theory, and a complete description remains an open problem.
The Stokes-Einstein relation (SER) is one of the most robust and widely employed results from the theory of liquids. Yet sizable deviations can be observed for self-solvation, which cannot be explained by the standard hydrodynamic derivation. Here, w e revisit the work of Masters and Madden [J. Chem. Phys. 74, 2450-2459 (1981)], who first solved a statistical mechanics model of the SER using the projection operator formalism. By generalizing their analysis to all spatial dimensions and to partially structured solvents, we identify a potential microscopic origin of some of these deviations. We also reproduce the SER-like result from the exact dynamics of infinite-dimensional fluids.
Emerging new concepts, such as magnetic charge dynamics in two-dimensional magnetic material, can provide novel mechanism for spin based electrical transport at macroscopic length. In artificial spin ice of single domain elements, magnetic charges re laxation can create an efficient electrical pathway for conduction by generating fluctuations in local magnetic field that couple with conduction electrons spins. In a first demonstration, we show that the electrical conductivity is propelled by more than an order of magnitude at room temperature due to magnetic charge defects sub-picosecond relaxation in artificial magnetic honeycomb lattice. The direct evidence to the proposed electrical conduction mechanism in two-dimensional frustrated magnet points to the untapped potential for spintronic applications in this system.
We numerically investigate the long-time behavior of the density-density auto-correlation function in driven lattice gases with particle exclusion and periodic boundary conditions in one, two, and three dimensions using precise Monte Carlo simulation s. In the one-dimensional asymmetric exclusion process on a ring with half the lattice sites occupied, we find that correlations induce extremely slow relaxation to the asymptotic power law decay. We compare the crossover functions obtained from our simulations with various analytic results in the literature, and analyze the characteristic oscillations that occur in finite systems away from half-filling. As expected, in three dimensions correlations are weak and consequently the mean-field description is adequate. We also investigate the relaxation towards the nonequilibrium steady state in the two-time density-density auto-correlations, starting from strongly correlated initial conditions. We obtain simple aging scaling behavior in one, two, and three dimensions, with the expected power laws.
