We study the half filled Hubbard chain including next-nearest-neighbor hopping $t$. The model has three phases: one insulating phase with dominant spin-density-wave correlations at large distances (SDWI), another phase with dominant spin-dimer correlations or dimerized insulator (DI), and a third one in which long distance correlations indicate singlet superconductivity (SS). The boundaries of the SDWI are accurately determined numerically through a crossing of excited energy levels equivalent to the jump in the spin Berry phase. The DI-SS boundary is studied using several indicators like correlation exponent $K_{rho}$, Drude weight $D_{c}$, localization parameter $z_{L}$ and charge gap $Delta_{c}$.

We investigate the half-filled Hubbard chain with additional nearest- and next-nearest-neighbor spin exchange, J1 and J2, using bosonization and the density-matrix renormalization group. For J2 = 0 we find a spin-density-wave phase for all positive v alues of the Hubbard interaction U and the Heisenberg exchange J1. A frustrating spin exchange J2 induces a bond-order-wave phase. For some values of J1, J2 and U, we observe a spin-gapped metallic Luther-Emery phase.
Using a self-consistent Hartree-Fock approximation we investigate the relative stability of various stripe phases in the extended $t$-$t$-$U$ Hubbard model. One finds that a negative ratio of next- to nearest-neighbor hopping $t/t<0$ expells holes fr om antiferromagnetic domains and reinforces the stripe order. Therefore the half-filled stripes not only accommodate holes but also redistribute them so that the kinetic energy is gained, and these stripes take over in the regime of $t/tsimeq -0.3$ appropriate for YBa$_2$Cu$_3$O$_{6+delta}$.

By using a combination of several non-perturbative techniques -- a one-dimensional field theoretical approach together with numerical simulations using density matrix renormalization group -- we present an extensive study of the phase diagram of the generalized Hund model at half-filling. This model encloses the physics of various strongly correlated one-dimensional systems, such as two-leg electronic ladders, ultracold degenerate fermionic gases carrying a large hyperfine spin 3/2, other cold gases like Ytterbium 171 or alkaline-earth condensates. A particular emphasis is laid on the possibility to enumerate and exhaust the eight possible Mott insulating phases by means of a duality approach. We exhibit a one-to-one correspondence between these phases and those of the two-leg Hubbard ladder with interchain hopping. Our results obtained from a weak coupling analysis are in remarkable quantitative agreement with our numerical results carried out at moderate coupling.
NdFeAsO0.88F0.12 belongs to the recently discovered family of high-TC iron-based superconductors. The influence of high pressure on transport properties of this material has been studied. Contrary to La-based compounds, we did not observe a maximum i n TC under pressure. Under compression, TC drops rapidly as a linear function of pressure with the slope k = -2.8 pm 0.1 K / GPa. The extrapolated value of TC at zero pressure is about TC (0) = 51.7 pm 0.4 K. At pressures higher than ~18.4 GPa, the superconducting state disappears at all measured temperatures. The resistance changes slope and shows a turn-up behavior, which may be related to the Kondo effect or a weak localization of two-dimensional carriers below ~45 K that is above TC and thus competing with the superconducting phase. The behavior of the sample is completely reversible at the decompression. On the bases of our experimental data, we propose a tentative P-T phase diagram of NdFeAsO0.88F0.12.
In-field DC and AC magnetization measurements were carried out on a sigma-phase Fe55Re45 intermetallic compound aimed at determination of the magnetic phase diagram in the H-T plane. Field cooled, M_FC, and zero-field cooled, M_ZFC, DC magnetization curves were measured in the magnetic field, H, up to 1200 Oe. AC magnetic susceptibility measurements were carried out at a constant frequency of 1465 Hz under DC fields up to H=500 Oe. The obtained results provide evidences for re-entrant magnetism in the investigated sample. The magnetic phase diagrams in the H-T plane have been outlined based on characteristic temperatures determined from the DC and AC measurements. The phase diagrams are similar yet not identical. The main difference is that in the DC diagram constructed there are two cross-over transitions within the strong-irreversibility spin-glass state, whereas in the AC susceptibility based diagram only one transition is observed. The border lines (irreversibility, cross-over) can be described in terms of the power laws.
