Multi-access edge computing (MEC) and non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) have been regarded as promising technologies to improve computation capability and offloading efficiency of the mobile devices in the sixth generation (6G) mobile system. This paper mainly focuses on the hybrid NOMA-MEC system, where multiple users are first grouped into pairs, and users in each pair offload their tasks simultaneously by NOMA, and then a dedicated time duration is scheduled to the more delay-tolerable user for uploading the remaining data by orthogonal multiple access (OMA). For the conventional NOMA uplink transmission, successive interference cancellation (SIC) is applied to decode the superposed signals successively according to the channel state information (CSI) or the quality of service (QoS) requirement. In this work, we integrate the hybrid SIC scheme which dynamically adapts the SIC decoding order among all NOMA groups. To solve the user grouping problem, a deep reinforcement learning (DRL) based algorithm is proposed to obtain a close-to-optimal user grouping policy. Moreover, we optimally minimize the offloading energy consumption by obtaining the closed-form solution to the resource allocation problem. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm converges fast, and the NOMA-MEC scheme outperforms the existing orthogonal multiple access (OMA) scheme.

In this article, we consider the problem of relay assisted computation offloading (RACO), in which user A aims to share the results of computational tasks with another user B through wireless exchange over a relay platform equipped with mobile edge c omputing capabilities, referred to as a mobile edge relay server (MERS). To support the computation offloading, we propose a hybrid relaying (HR) approach employing two orthogonal frequency bands, where the amplify-and-forward scheme is used in one band to exchange computational results, while the decode-and-forward scheme is used in the other band to transfer the unprocessed tasks. The motivation behind the proposed HR scheme for RACO is to adapt the allocation of computing and communication resources both to dynamic user requirements and to diverse computational tasks. Within this framework, we seek to minimize the weighted sum of the execution delay and the energy consumption in the RACO system by jointly optimizing the computation offloading ratio, the bandwidth allocation, the processor speeds, as well as the transmit power levels of both user $A$ and the MERS, under practical constraints on the available computing and communication resources. The resultant problem is formulated as a non-differentiable and nonconvex optimization program with highly coupled constraints. By adopting a series of transformations and introducing auxiliary variables, we first convert this problem into a more tractable yet equivalent form. We then develop an efficient iterative algorithm for its solution based on the concave-convex procedure. By exploiting the special structure of this problem, we also propose a simplified algorithm based on the inexact block coordinate descent method, with reduced computational complexity. Finally, we present numerical results that illustrate the advantages of the proposed algorithms over state-of-the-art benchmark schemes.
By exploiting the superiority of non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA), NOMA-aided mobile edge computing (MEC) can provide scalable and low-latency computing services for the Internet of Things. However, given the prevalent stochasticity of wireless networks and sophisticated signal processing of NOMA, it is critical but challenging to design an efficient task offloading algorithm for NOMA-aided MEC, especially under a large number of devices. This paper presents an online algorithm that jointly optimizes offloading decisions and resource allocation to maximize the long-term system utility (i.e., a measure of throughput and fairness). Since the optimization variables are temporary coupled, we first apply Lyapunov technique to decouple the long-term stochastic optimization into a series of per-slot deterministic subproblems, which does not require any prior knowledge of network dynamics. Second, we propose to transform the non-convex per-slot subproblem of optimizing NOMA power allocation equivalently to a convex form by introducing a set of auxiliary variables, whereby the time-complexity is reduced from the exponential complexity to $mathcal{O} (M^{3/2})$. The proposed algorithm is proved to be asymptotically optimal, even under partial knowledge of the device states at the base station. Simulation results validate the superiority of the proposed algorithm in terms of system utility, stability improvement, and the overhead reduction.
Multi-access edge computing (MEC) can enhance the computing capability of mobile devices, while non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) can provide high data rates. Combining these two strategies can effectively benefit the network with spectrum and en ergy efficiency. In this paper, we investigate the task delay minimization in multi-user NOMA-MEC networks, where multiple users can offload their tasks simultaneously through the same frequency band. We adopt the partial offloading policy, in which each user can partition its computation task into offloading and locally computing parts. We aim to minimize the task delay among users by optimizing their tasks partition ratios and offloading transmit power. The delay minimization problem is first formulated, and it is shown that it is a nonconvex one. By carefully investigating its structure, we transform the original problem into an equivalent quasi-convex. In this way, a bisection search iterative algorithm is proposed in order to achieve the minimum task delay. To reduce the complexity of the proposed algorithm and evaluate its optimality, we further derive closed-form expressions for the optimal task partition ratio and offloading power for the case of two-user NOMA-MEC networks. Simulations demonstrate the convergence and optimality of the proposed algorithm and the effectiveness of the closed-form analysis.
The combination of non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) and mobile edge computing (MEC) can significantly improve the spectrum efficiency beyond the fifth-generation network. In this paper, we mainly focus on energy-efficient resource allocation for a multi-user, multi-BS NOMA assisted MEC network with imperfect channel state information (CSI), in which each user can upload its tasks to multiple base stations (BSs) for remote executions. To minimize the energy consumption, we consider jointly optimizing the task assignment, power allocation and user association. As the main contribution, with imperfect CSI, the optimal closed-form expressions of task assignment and power allocation are analytically derived for the two-BS case. Specifically, the original formulated problem is nonconvex. We first transform the probabilistic problem into a non-probabilistic one. Subsequently, a bilevel programming method is proposed to derive the optimal solution. In addition, by incorporating the matching algorithm with the optimal task and power allocation, we propose a low complexity algorithm to efficiently optimize user association for the multi-user and multi-BS case. Simulations demonstrate that the proposed algorithm can yield much better performance than the conventional OMA scheme but also the identical results with lower complexity from the exhaustive search with the small number of BSs.
The high reflect beamforming gain of the intelligent reflecting surface (IRS) makes it appealing not only for wireless information transmission but also for wireless power transfer. In this letter, we consider an IRS-assisted wireless powered communi cation network, where a base station (BS) transmits energy to multiple users grouped into multiple clusters in the downlink, and the clustered users transmit information to the BS in the manner of hybrid non-orthogonal multiple access and time division multiple access in the uplink. We investigate optimizing the reflect beamforming of the IRS and the time allocation among the BSs power transfer and different user clusters information transmission to maximize the throughput of the network, and we propose an efficient algorithm based on the block coordinate ascent, semidefinite relaxation, and sequential rank-one constraint relaxation techniques to solve the resultant problem. Simulation results have verified the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm and have shown the impact of user clustering setup on the throughput performance of the network.
