We report on the structural phase transitions in the S doped FeSe superconductor by powder synchrotron X ray diffraction at high pressures up to 18.5 GPa under compression and decompression modes. In order to create high quasi hydrostatic pressures, diamond anvil cells filled with helium as a pressure transmitting medium were used. It was found that at ambient pressure and room temperature, S doped FeSe has a tetragonal structure. Under compression, in the region of 10 GPa, a phase transition from the tetragonal into the orthorhombic structure is observed, which persists up to 18.5 GPa. Our results strongly suggest that, at decompression, as the applied pressure decreases to 6 GPa and then is completely removed, most of the sample recrystallizes into the hexagonal phase of the structural type NiAs. However, the other part of the sample remains in the high pressure orthorhombic phase, while the tetragonal phase is not restored. These observations illustrate a strong hysteresis of the structural properties of S doped FeSe during a phase transition under pressure.

We have investigated structural and magnetic phase transitions under high pressures in a quaternary rare earth transition metal arsenide oxide NdCoAsO compound that is isostructural to high temperature superconductor NdFeAsO. Four-probe electrical re sistance measurements carried out in a designer diamond anvil cell show that the ferromagnetic Curie temperature and anti-ferromagnetic Neel temperature increase with an increase in pressure. High pressure x-ray diffraction studies using a synchrotron source show a structural phase transition from a tetragonal phase to a new crystallographic phase at a pressure of 23 GPa at 300 K. The NdCoAsO sample remained anti-ferromagnetic and non-superconducting to temperatures down to 10 K and to the highest pressure achieved in this experiment of 53 GPa. A P-T phase diagram for NdCoAsO is presented to a pressure of 53 GPa and low temperatures of 10 K.
We show that polycrystalline GeSb2Te4 in the fcc phase (f-GST), which is an insulator at low temperature at ambient pressure, becomes a superconductor at elevated pressures. Our study of the superconductor to insulator transition versus pressure at l ow temperatures reveals a second order quantum phase transition with linear scaling (critical exponent close to unity) of the transition temperature with the pressure above the critical zero-temperature pressure. In addition, we demonstrate that at higher pressures the f-GST goes through a structural phase transition via amorphization to bcc GST (b-GST), which also become superconducting. We also find that the pressure regime where an inhomogeneous mixture of amorphous and b-GST exists, there is an anomalous peak in magnetoresistance, and suggest an explanation for this anomaly.
We consider a superconductor in which the density of states at the Fermi level or the pairing interaction is driven periodically with a frequency larger than the superconducting gap in the collisionless regime. We show by numerical and analytical com putations that a subset of quasiparticle excitations enter into resonance and perform synchronous Rabi oscillations leading to cyclic population inversion with a frequency that depends on the amplitude of the drive. As a consequence a new Rabi-Higgs mode emerges. Turning off the drive at different times and modulating the strength allows access to all known dynamical phases of the order parameter: persistent oscillations, oscillations with damping and overdamped dynamics. We discuss physical realizations of the drive and methods to detect the dynamics.

The crystal structure of the new superconductor UTe2 has been investigated for the first time at low temperature (LT) of 2.7 K, just closely above the superconducting transition temperature of about 1.7 K by single crystal neutron diffraction, in ord er to prove, whether the orthorhombic structure of type Immm (Nr. 71 Int. Tabl.) reported for room temperature (RT) persists down to the superconducting phase and can be considered as a parent symmetry for the development of spin triplet superconductivity. Our results show that the RT structure reported previously obtained by single crystal X-Ray diffraction indeed describes also the LT neutron diffraction data with high precision. No structural change from RT down to 2.7 K is observed. Detailed structural parameters for UTe2 at LT are reported.
One branch of the La-214 family of cuprate superconductors, La1.6-xNd0.4SrxCuO4 (Nd-LSCO), has been of significant and sustained interest, in large part because it displays the full complexity of the phase diagram for canonical hole-doped, high Tc su perconductivity, while also displaying relatively low superconducting critical temperatures. The low superconducting Tcs imply that experimentally accessible magnetic fields can suppress the superconductivity to zero temperature. In particular, this has enabled various transport and thermodynamic studies of the T = 0 ground state in Nd-LSCO, free of superconductivity, across the critical doping p* = 0.23 where the pseudogap phase ends. The strong dependence of its superconducting properties on its crystal symmetry has itself motivated careful studies of the Nd-LSCO structural phase diagram. This paper provides a systematic study and summary of the materials preparation and characterization of both single crystal and polycrystalline samples of Nd-LSCO. Single-phase polycrystalline samples with x spanning the range from 0.01 to 0.40 have been synthesized, and large single crystals of Nd-LSCO for select x across the region (0.07, 0.12, 0.17, 0.19, 0.225, 0.24, and 0.26) were grown by the optical floating zone method. Systematic neutron and X-ray diffraction studies on these samples were performed at both low and room temperatures, 10 K and 300 K, respectively. These studies allowed us to follow the various structural phase transitions and propose an updated structural phase diagram for Nd-LSCO. In particular, we found that the low-temperature tetragonal (LTT) phase ends at a critical doping pLTT = 0.255(5), clearly separated from p*.
