Integrating unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) to non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) visible light communications (VLC) exposes many potentials over VLC and NOMA-VLC systems. In this circumstance, user grouping is of importance to reduce the NOMA decoding complexity when the number of users is large; however, this issue has not been considered in the existing study. In this paper, we aim to maximize the weighted sum-rate of all the users by jointly optimizing UAV placement, user grouping, and power allocation in downlink NOMA-VLC systems. We first consider an efficient user clustering strategy, then apply a swarm intelligence approach, namely Harris Hawk Optimization (HHO), to solve the joint UAV placement and power allocation problem. Simulation results show outperformance of the proposed algorithm in comparison with four alternatives: OMA, NOMA without pairing, NOMA-VLC with fixed UAV placement, and random user clustering.

The use of the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) has been foreseen as a promising technology for the next generation communication networks. Since there are no regulations for UAVs deployment yet, most likely they form a network in coexistence with an al ready existed network. In this work, we consider a transmission mechanism that aims to improve the data rate between a terrestrial base station (BS) and user equipment (UE) through deploying multiple UAVs relaying the desired data flow. Considering the coexistence of this network with other established communication networks, we take into account the effect of interference, which is incurred by the existing nodes. Our primary goal is to optimize the three-dimensional (3D) trajectories and power allocation for the relaying UAVs to maximize the data flow while keeping the interference to existing nodes below a predefined threshold. An alternating-maximization strategy is proposed to solve the joint 3D trajectory design and power allocation for the relaying UAVs. To this end, we handle the information exchange within the network by resorting to spectral graph theory and subsequently address the power allocation through convex optimization techniques. Simulation results show that our approach can considerably improve the information flow while the interference threshold constraint is met.
Visible Light Communication (VLC) is based on the dual use of the illumination infrastructure for wireless data communication. The major interest on this communication technology lies on its specific features to be a secure, cost-effective wireless t echnology. Recently, this technology has gained an important role as potential candidate for complementing traditional RF communication systems. Anyway a major issue for the VLC development is a deep comprehension of the noise and its impact on the received signal at the receiver. In this work, we present a simple but effective approach to analyze the noise and drastically reduce it through a signal processing method. In order to validate the effectiveness of this analytical approach, we have developed an USRP-based testbed. Experimental results have been carried out by evaluating the symbol error rate (SER) and show the effectiveness of the noise mitigation approach in different interference conditions and at different distance between the transmitter and the receiver.
Vehicular edge computing (VEC) is envisioned as a promising approach to process the explosive computation tasks of vehicular user (VU). In the VEC system, each VU allocates power to process partial tasks through offloading and the remaining tasks thr ough local execution. During the offloading, each VU adopts the multi-input multi-out and non-orthogonal multiple access (MIMO-NOMA) channel to improve the channel spectrum efficiency and capacity. However, the channel condition is uncertain due to the channel interference among VUs caused by the MIMO-NOMA channel and the time-varying path-loss caused by the mobility of each VU. In addition, the task arrival of each VU is stochastic in the real world. The stochastic task arrival and uncertain channel condition affect greatly on the power consumption and latency of tasks for each VU. It is critical to design an optimal power allocation scheme considering the stochastic task arrival and channel variation to optimize the long-term reward including the power consumption and latency in the MIMO-NOMA VEC. Different from the traditional centralized deep reinforcement learning (DRL)-based scheme, this paper constructs a decentralized DRL framework to formulate the power allocation optimization problem, where the local observations are selected as the state. The deep deterministic policy gradient (DDPG) algorithm is adopted to learn the optimal power allocation scheme based on the decentralized DRL framework. Simulation results demonstrate that our proposed power allocation scheme outperforms the existing schemes.
As the integration of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) into visible light communications (VLC) can offer many benefits for massive-connectivity applications and services in 5G and beyond, this work considers a UAV-assisted VLC using non-orthogonal mul tiple-access. More specifically, we formulate a joint problem of power allocation and UAVs placement to maximize the sum rate of all users, subject to constraints on power allocation, quality of service of users, and UAVs position. Since the problem is non-convex and NP-hard in general, it is difficult to be solved optimally. Moreover, the problem is not easy to be solved by conventional approaches, e.g., coordinate descent algorithms, due to channel modeling in VLC. Therefore, we propose using harris hawks optimization (HHO) algorithm to solve the formulated problem and obtain an efficient solution. We then use the HHO algorithm together with artificial neural networks to propose a design which can be used in real-time applications and avoid falling into the local minima trap in conventional trainers. Numerical results are provided to verify the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm and further demonstrate that the proposed algorithm/HHO trainer is superior to several alternative schemes and existing metaheuristic algorithms.
Achieving significant performance gains both in terms of system throughput and massive connectivity, non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) has been considered as a very promising candidate for future wireless communications technologies. It has alrea dy received serious consideration for implementation in the fifth generation (5G) and beyond wireless communication systems. This is mainly due to NOMA allowing more than one user to utilise one transmission resource simultaneously at the transmitter side and successive interference cancellation (SIC) at the receiver side. However, in order to take advantage of the benefits, NOMA provides in an optimal manner, power allocation needs to be considered to maximise the system throughput. This problem is non-deterministic polynomial-time (NP)-hard which is mainly why the use of deep learning techniques for power allocation is required. In this paper, a state-of-the-art review on cutting-edge solutions to the power allocation optimisation problem using deep learning is provided. It is shown that the use of deep learning techniques to obtain effective solutions to the power allocation problem in NOMA is paramount for the future of NOMA-based wireless communication systems. Furthermore, several possible research directions based on the use of deep learning in NOMA systems are presented.
