We comment on the role of the graviton mass in recent calculations of the Page curve using holographic ideas. All reliable calculations of the Page curve in more than 2+1 spacetime dimensions have been performed in systems with massive gravitons. A crucial ingredient in these calculations is the formation of islands, regions that contribute to the entropy of degrees of freedom located elsewhere. While most often simply ignored, it is indeed true that mass of the graviton does not appear to significantly affect the calculations that appeared in the literature. We use the freedom to change the graviton mass to give an extremely simple model of analytically tractable island formation in general dimensions. We do however note that if one attempts to take the limit of zero graviton mass, any contribution from the islands disappears. This raises the question to what extent entanglement islands can play a role in standard massless gravity.

Recent work has demonstrated the need to include contributions from entanglement islands when computing the entanglement entropy in QFT states coupled to regions of semiclassical gravity. We propose a new formula for the reflected entropy that includ es additional contributions from such islands. We derive this formula from the gravitational path integral by finding additional saddles that include generalized replica wormholes. We also demonstrate that our covariant formula satisfies all the inequalities required of the reflected entropy. We use this formula in various examples that demonstrate its relevance in illustrating the structure of multipartite entanglement that are invisible to the entropies.

It has been suggested in recent work that the Page curve of Hawking radiation can be recovered using computations in semi-classical gravity provided one allows for islands in the gravity region of quantum systems coupled to gravity. The explicit comp utations so far have been restricted to black holes in two-dimensional Jackiw-Teitelboim gravity. In this note, we numerically construct a five-dimensional asymptotically AdS geometry whose boundary realizes a four-dimensional Hartle-Hawking state on an eternal AdS black hole in equilibrium with a bath. We also numerically find two types of extremal surfaces: ones that correspond to having or not having an island. The version of the information paradox involving the eternal black hole exists in this setup, and it is avoided by the presence of islands. Thus, recent computations exhibiting islands in two-dimensional gravity generalize to higher dimensions as well.

The newly proposed island formula for entanglement entropy of Hawking radiation is applied to spherically symmetric 4-dimensional eternal Kaluza-Klein (KK) black holes (BHs). The charge $Q$ of a KK BH quantifies its deviation from a Schwarzschild BH. The impact of $Q$ on the island is studied at both early and late times. The early size of the island, emph{if exists}, is of order Planck length $ell_{mathrm{P}}$, and will be shortened by $Q$ by a factor $1/sqrt2$ at most. The late-time island, whose boundary is on the outside but within a Planckian distance of the horizon, is slightly extended. While the no-island entropy grows linearly, the late-time entanglement entropy is given by island configuration with twice the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy. Thus we reproduce the Page curve for the eternal KK BHs. Compared with Schwarzschild results, the Page time and the scrambling time are marginally delayed. Moreover, the higher-dimensional generalization is presented. Skeptically, in both early and late times, there are Planck length scales involved, in which a semi-classical description of quantum fields breaks down.
We consider the island formula for the entropy of subsets of the Hawking radiation in the adiabatic limit where the evaporation is very slow. We find a simple concrete `on-shell formula for the generalized entropy which involves the image of the isla nd out in the stream of radiation, the `island in the stream. The resulting recipe for the entropy allows us to calculate the quantum information properties of the radiation and verify various constraints including the Araki-Lieb inequality and strong subadditivity.
We consider entanglement entropies of finite spatial intervals in Minkowski radiation baths coupled to the eternal black hole in JT gravity, and the related problem involving free fermion BCFT in the thermofield double state. We show that the non-mon otonic entropy evolution in the black hole problem precisely matches that of the free fermion theory in a high temperature limit, and the results are universal. Both exhibit rich behaviour that involves at intermediate times, an entropy saddle with an island in the former case, and in the latter a special class of disconnected OPE channels. The quantum extremal surfaces start outside the horizon, but plunge inside as time evolves, causing a characteristic, universal dip in the entropy also seen in the free fermion BCFT. Finally an entropy equilibrium is reached with a no-island saddle.
