The two-body (pair) contribution to the entropy of two-dimensional Yukawa systems is calculated and analyzed. We find exponentially many exact quantum many-body scar states in a two-dimensional PXP model -- an effective model for a two-dimensional Rydberg atom array in the nearest-neighbor blockade regime. Such scar states are remarkably simple valence bond solids despite being at effectively infinite temperature, and thus strongly violate the eigenstate thermalization hypothesis. Given a particular boundary condition, such eigenstates have integer-valued energies. Moreover, certain charge-density-wave initial states give rise to strong oscillations in the Rydberg excitation density after a quantum quench and tower-like structures in their overlaps with eigenstates.
The coupling-parameter method, whereby an extra particle is progressively coupled to the rest of the particles, is applied to the sticky-hard-sphere fluid to obtain its equation of state in the so-called chemical-potential route ($mu$ route). As a co nsistency test, the results for one-dimensional sticky particles are shown to be exact. Results corresponding to the three-dimensional case (Baxters model) are derived within the Percus-Yevick approximation by using different prescriptions for the dependence of the interaction potential of the extra particle on the coupling parameter. The critical point and the coexistence curve of the gas-liquid phase transition are obtained in the $mu$ route and compared with predictions from other thermodynamics routes and from computer simulations. The results show that the $mu$ route yields a general better description than the virial, energy, compressibility, and zero-separation routes.

Determining the microstructure of colloidal suspensions under shear flows has been a challenge for theoretical and computational methods due to the singularly-perturbed boundary-layer nature of the problem. Previous approaches have been limited to th e case of hard-sphere systems and suffer from various limitations in their applicability. We present a new analytic scheme based on intermediate asymptotics which solves the Smoluchowski diffusion-convection equation including both intermolecular and hydrodynamic interactions. The method is able to recover previous results for the hard-sphere fluid and, for the first time, to predict the radial distribution function (rdf) of attractive fluids such as the Lennard-Jones (LJ) fluid. In particular, a new depletion effect is predicted in the rdf of the LJ fluid under shear. This method can be used for the theoretical modelling and understanding of real fluids subjected to flow, with applications ranging from chemical systems to colloids, rheology, plasmas, and atmospherical science.
We use lattice Boltzmann simulations to study the effect of shear on the phase ordering of a two-dimensional binary fluid. The shear is imposed by generalising the lattice Boltzmann algorithm to include Lees-Edwards boundary conditions. We show how t he interplay between the ordering effects of the spinodal decomposition and the disordering tendencies of the shear, which depends on the shear rate and the fluid viscosity, can lead to a state of dynamic equilibrium where domains are continually broken up and re-formed.
The identification of the different phases of a two-dimensional (2d) system, which might be in solid, hexatic, or liquid, requires the accurate determination of the correlation function of the translational and of the bond-orientational order paramet ers. According to the Kosterlitz-Thouless-Halperin-Nelson-Young (KTHNY) theory, in the solid phase the translational correlation function decays algebraically, as a consequence of the Mermin-Wagner long-wavelength fluctuations. Recent results have however reported an exponential-like decay. By revisiting different definitions of the translational correlation function commonly used in the literature, here we clarify that the observed exponential-like decay in the solid phase results from an inaccurate determination of the symmetry axis of the solid; the expected power-law behaviour is recovered when the symmetry axis is properly identified. We show that, contrary to the common assumption, the symmetry axis of a 2d solid is not fixed by the direction of its global bond-orientational parameter, and introduce an approach allowing to determine the symmetry axis from a real space analysis of the sample.
