Experimental measurements of Drell-Yan (DY) vector-boson production are available from the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and from lower-energy collider and fixed-target experiments. In the region of low vector-boson transverse momenta $q_T$, which is important for the extraction of the $W$-boson mass at the LHC, QCD contributions from non-perturbative Sudakov form factors and intrinsic transverse momentum distributions become relevant. We study the potential for determining such contributions from fits to LHC and lower-energy experimental data, using the framework of low-$q_T$ factorization for DY differential cross sections in terms of transverse momentum dependent (TMD) distribution functions. We investigate correlations between different sources of TMD non-perturbative effects, and correlations with collinear parton distributions. We stress the relevance of accurate DY measurements at low masses and with fine binning in transverse momentum for improved determinations of long-distance contributions to Sudakov evolution processes and TMDs.

Within the framework of transverse-momentum-dependent factorization, we investigate for the first time the impact of a flavor-dependent intrinsic transverse momentum of quarks on the production of $W^{pm}$ bosons in proton-proton collisions at $sqrt{ s}$ = 7 TeV. We estimate the shift in the extracted value of the $W$ boson mass $M_W$ induced by different choices of flavor-dependent parameters for the intrinsic quark transverse momentum by means of a template fit to the transverse-mass and the lepton transverse-momentum distributions of the $W$-decay products. We obtain $-6leq Delta M_{W^+} leq 9$ MeV and $-4leq Delta M_{W^-} leq 3$ MeV with a statistical uncertainty of $pm 2.5$ MeV. Our findings call for more detailed investigations of flavor-dependent nonperturbative effects linked to the proton structure at hadron colliders.
The energy and rapidity dependence of the average transverse momentum $langle p_T rangle$ in $pp$ and $pA$ collisions at RHIC and LHC energies are estimated using the Colour Glass Condensate (CGC) formalism. We update previous predictions for the $p_ T$ - spectra using the hybrid formalism of the CGC approach and two phenomenological models for the dipole - target scattering amplitude. We demonstrate that these models are able to describe the RHIC and LHC data for the hadron production in $pp$, $dAu$ and $pPb$ collisions at $p_T le 20$ GeV. Moreover, we present our predictions for $langle p_T rangle$ and demonstrate that the ratio $langle p_{T}(y)rangle / langle p_{T}(y = 0)rangle$ decreases with the rapidity and has a behaviour similar to that predicted by hydrodynamical calculations.
We try to separate the perturbative and non-perturbative contributions to the plaquette of pure SU(3) gauge theory. To do this we look at the large-n asymptotic behaviour of the perturbation series in order to estimate the contribution of the as-yet uncalculated terms in the series. We find no evidence for the previously reported Lambda^2 contribution to the gluon condensate. Attempting to determine the conventional Lambda^4 condensate gives a value of approximately 0.03(2) GeV^4, in reasonable agreement with sum rule estimates, though with very large uncertainties.

We study the transverse momentum distribution of vector mesons produced in ultraperipheral relativistic heavy ion collisions (UPCs). In UPCs there is no strong interaction between the nuclei and the vector mesons are produced in photon-nucleus collis ions where the (quasireal) photon is emitted from the other nucleus. Exchanging the role of both ions leads to interference effects. A detailed study of the transverse momentum distribution which is determined by the transverse momentum of the emitted photon, the production process on the target and the interference effect is done. We study the total unrestricted cross section and those, where an additional electromagnetic excitation of one or both of the ions takes place in addition to the vector meson production, in the latter case small impact parameters are emphasized.
The transverse momentum spectra of hadrons produced in high energy collisions can be decomposed into two components: the exponential (thermal) and the power (hard) ones. Recently, the H1 Collaboration has discovered that the relative strength of thes e two components in Deep Inelastic Scattering depends drastically upon the global structure of the event - namely, the exponential component is absent in the diffractive events characterized by a rapidity gap. We discuss the possible origin of this effect, and speculate that it is linked to confinement. Specifically, we argue that the thermal component is due to the effective event horizon introduced by the confining string, in analogy to the Hawking-Unruh effect. In diffractive events, the $t$-channel exchange is color-singlet and there is no fragmenting string -- so the thermal component is absent. The slope of the soft component of the hadron spectrum in this picture is determined by the saturation momentum that drives the deceleration in the color field, and thus the Hawking-Unruh temperature. We analyze the data on non-diffractive $pp$ collisions and find that the slope of the thermal component of the hadron spectrum is indeed proportional to the saturation momentum.
