Mixed-numerology transmission is proposed to support a variety of communication scenarios with diverse requirements. However, as the orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) remains as the basic waveform, the peak-to average power ratio (PAPR) problem is still cumbersome. In this paper, based on the iterative clipping and filtering (ICF) and optimization methods, we investigate the PAPR reduction in the mixed-numerology systems. We first illustrate that the direct extension of classical ICF brings about the accumulation of inter-numerology interference (INI) due to the repeated execution. By exploiting the clipping noise rather than the clipped signal, the noise-shaped ICF (NS-ICF) method is then proposed without increasing the INI. Next, we address the in-band distortion minimization problem subject to the PAPR constraint. By reformulation, the resulting model is separable in both the objective function and the constraints, and well suited for the alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM) approach. The ADMM-based algorithms are then developed to split the original problem into several subproblems which can be easily solved with closed-form solutions. Furthermore, the applications of the proposed PAPR reduction methods combined with filtering and windowing techniques are also shown to be effective.

The design of deterministic filters can be cast as a problem of minimizing an associated cost function for an optimal control problem. Employing the min-plus linearity property of the dynamic programming operator (associated with the control problem) results in a computationally feasible approach (while avoiding linearization of the system dynamics/output). This article describes the salient features of this approach and a specific form of pruning/projection, based on clustering, which serves to facilitate the numerical efficiency of these methods.

It is shown by numerical simulations and transmission experiments that a feedbac k from the FEC decoder enables improved compensation performance, allowing the receiver to operate very close to the full data-aided performance bounds. The experimental analysis considers the dispersion uncompensated transmission of a 5 x 32 GBd WDM system with DP-16QAM and DP-64QAM after 4200 km and 1120 km, respectively. The experimental results show that the proposed scheme outperforms single-channel digital backpropagation. In this study, we propose partitioned complementary sequences (CSs) where the gaps between the clusters encode information bits to achieve low peak-to-average-power ratio (PAPR) orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) symbols. We show that the partitioning rule without losing the feature of being a CS coincides with the non-squashing partitions of a positive integer and leads to a symmetric separation of clusters. We analytically derive the number of partitioned CSs for given bandwidth and a minimum distance constraint and obtain the corresponding recursive methods for enumerating the values of separations. We show that partitioning can increase the spectral efficiency (SE) without changing the alphabet of the nonzero elements of the CS, i.e., standard CSs relying on Reed-Muller (RM) code. We also develop an encoder for partitioned CSs and a maximum-likelihood-based recursive decoder for additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) and fading channels. Our results indicate that the partitioned CSs under a minimum distance constraint can perform similar to the standard CSs in terms of average block error rate (BLER) and provide a higher SE at the expense of a limited signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) loss.
We propose a novel three-stage delay-Doppler-angle estimation algorithm for a MIMO-OFDM radar in the presence of inter-carrier interference (ICI). First, leveraging the observation that spatial covariance matrix is independent of target delays and Do pplers, we perform angle estimation via the MUSIC algorithm. For each estimated angle, we next formulate the radar delay-Doppler estimation as a joint carrier frequency offset (CFO) and channel estimation problem via an APES (amplitude and phase estimation) spatial filtering approach by transforming the delay-Doppler parameterized radar channel into an unstructured form. In the final stage, delay and Doppler of each target can be recovered from target-specific channel estimates over time and frequency. Simulation results illustrate the superior performance of the proposed algorithm in high-mobility scenarios.

Orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) is widely adopted for providing reliable and high data rate communication in high-speed train systems. However, with the increasing train mobility, the resulting large Doppler shift introduces interca rrier interference (ICI) in OFDM systems and greatly degrades the channel estimation accuracy. Therefore, it is necessary and important to investigate reliable channel estimation and ICI mitigation methods in high-mobility environments. In this paper, we consider a typical HST communication system and show that the ICI caused by the large Doppler shift can be mitigated by exploiting the train position information as well as the sparsity of the conventional basis expansion model (BEM) based channel model. Then, we show that for the complex-exponential BEM (CE-BEM) based channel model, the ICI can be completely eliminated to get the ICI-free pilots at each receive antenna. After that, we propose a new pilot pattern design algorithm to reduce the system coherence and hence can improve the compressed sensing (CS) based channel estimation accuracy. The proposed optimal pilot pattern is independent of the number of receive antennas, the Doppler shifts, the train position, or the train speed. Simulation results confirms the performance merits of the proposed scheme in high-mobility environments. In addition, it is also shown that the proposed scheme is robust to the respect of high mobility.
