We carry out an analysis of the full set of ten $bar{B}to D^{(*)}$ form factors within the framework of the Heavy-Quark Expansion (HQE) to order $mathcal{O}(alpha_s,,1/m_b,,1/m_c^2)$, both with and without the use of experimental data. This becomes possible due to a recent calculation of these form factors at and beyond the maximal physical recoil using QCD light-cone sum rules, in combination with constraints from lattice QCD, QCD three-point sum rules and unitarity. We find good agreement amongst the various theoretical results, as well as between the theoretical results and the kinematical distributions in $bar{B}to D^{(*)}lbrace e^-,mu^-rbracebar u$ measurements. The coefficients entering at the $1/m_c^2$ level are found to be of $mathcal{O}(1)$, indicating convergence of the HQE. The phenomenological implications of our study include an updated exclusive determination of $|V_{cb}|$ in the HQE, which is compatible with both the exclusive determination using the BGL parametrization and with the inclusive determination. We also revisit predictions for the lepton-flavour universality ratios $R_{D^{(*)}}$, the $tau$ polarization observables $P_tau^{D^{(*)}}$, and the longitudinal polarization fraction $F_L$. Posterior samples for the HQE parameters are provided as ancillary files, allowing for their use in subsequent studies.

Besides being important to determine Standard Model parameters such as the CKM matrix elements $|V_{cb}|$ and $|V_{ub}|$, semileptonic $B$ decays seem also promising to reveal new physics (NP) phenomena, in particular in connection with the possibili ty of uncovering lepton flavour universality (LFU) violating effects. In this view, it could be natural to connect the tensions in the inclusive versus exclusive determinations of $|V_{cb}|$ to the anomalies in the ratios $R(D^{(*)})$ of decay rates into $tau$ vs $mu, e$. However, the question has been raised about the role of the parametrization of the hadronic $B to D^{(*)}$ form factors in exclusive $B$ decay modes. We focus on the fully differential angular distributions of $bar B to D^* ell^-{bar u}_ell$ with $D^* to D pi$ or $D^* to D gamma$, the latter mode being important in the case of $B_s to D_s^*$ decays. We show that the angular coefficients in the distributions can be used to scrutinize the role of the form factor parametrization and to pin down deviations from SM. As an example of a NP scenario, we include a tensor operator in the $b to c$ semileptonic effective Hamiltonian, and discuss how the angular coefficients allow to construct observables sensitive to this structure, also defining ratios useful to test LFU.
We evaluate long-distance electromagnetic (QED) contributions to $bar{B}{}^0 to D^+ tau^{-} bar{ u}_{tau}$ and $B^- to D^0 tau^{-} bar{ u}_{tau}$ relative to $bar{B}{}^0 to D^+ mu^{-} bar{ u}_{mu}$ and $B^- to D^0 mu^{-} bar{ u}_{mu}$, respectively, in the standard model. We point out that the QED corrections to the ratios $R(D^{+})$ and $R(D^{0})$ are not negligible, contrary to the expectation that radiative corrections are almost canceled out in the ratio of the two branching fractions. The reason is that long-distance QED corrections depend on the masses and relative velocities of the daughter particles. We find that theoretical predictions for $R(D^{+})^{tau/mu}$ and $R(D^{0})^{tau/mu}$ can be amplified by $sim4%$ and $sim3%$, respectively, for the soft-photon energy cut in range $20$-$40$ MeV.
We present the first lattice-QCD determination of the form factors describing the semileptonic decays $Lambda_b to Lambda_c^*(2595)ell^-bar{ u}$ and $Lambda_b to Lambda_c^*(2625)ell^-bar{ u}$, where the $Lambda_c^*(2595)$ and $Lambda_c^*(2625)$ are t he lightest charm baryons with $J^P=frac12^-$ and $J^P=frac32^-$, respectively. These decay modes provide new opportunities to test lepton flavor universality and also play an important role in global analyses of the strong interactions in $bto c$ semileptonic decays. We determine the full set of vector, axial vector, and tensor form factors for both decays, but only in a small kinematic region near the zero-recoil point. The lattice calculation uses three different ensembles of gauge-field configurations with $2+1$ flavors of domain-wall fermions, and we perform extrapolations of the form factors to the continuum limit and physical pion mass. We present Standard-Model predictions for the differential decay rates and angular observables. In the kinematic region considered, the differential decay rate for the $frac12^-$ final state is found to be approximately 2.5 times larger than the rate for the $frac32^-$ final state. We also test the compatibility of our form-factor results with zero-recoil sum rules.
A new model-independent parametrization is proposed for the hadronic form factors in the semileptonic $bar{B}to Dellbar{ u}_ell$ decay. By a combined consideration of the recent experimental and lattice QCD data, we determine precisely the Cabibbo-Ko bayashi-Maskawa matrix element $|V_{cb}|=41.01(75)times 10^{-3}$ and the ratio $mathcal{R}_D=frac{mathcal{BR}(bar{B}to D tau bar{ u}_tau)}{mathcal{BR}(bar{B}to D ell bar{ u}_ell)}=0.301(5)$. The coefficients in this parametrization, related to phase shifts by sumrulelike dispersion relations and hence called phase moments, encode important scattering information of the $bar{B}bar{D}$ interactions which are poorly known so far. Thus, we give strong hints about the existence of at least one bound and one virtual $bar B bar D$ $S$-wave $0^+$ states, subject to uncertainties produced by potentially sizable inelastic effects. This formalism is also applicable for any other semileptonic processes induced by the weak $bto c$ transition.
We comprehensively study the charged-Higgs contributions to the leptonic $B^-_q to ell bar u$ ($q=u,c$) and semileptonic $bar B to X_q ell bar u$ ($X_u=pi, rho; X_c=D,D^*$) decays in the type-III two-Higgs-doublet model (2HDM). We employ the Cheng-S her ansatz to suppress the tree-level flavor-changing neutral currents (FCNCs) in the quark sector. When the strict constraints from the $Delta B=2$ and $bto s gamma$ processes are considered, parameters $chi^u_{tq}$ from the quark couplings and $chi^ell_ell$ from the lepton couplings dictate the leptonic and semileptonic $B$ decays. It is found that when the measured $B^-_uto tau bar u$ and indirect bound of $B^-_c to tau bar u$ obtained by LEP1 data are taken into account, $R(D)$ and $R(pi)$ can have broadly allowed ranges; however, the values of $R(rho)$ and $R(D^*)$ are limited to approximately the standard model (SM) results. We also find that the same behaviors also occur in the $tau$-lepton polarizations and forward-backward asymmetries ($A^{X_q,tau}_{FB}$) of the semileptonic decays, with the exception of $A^{D^*,tau}_{FB}$, for which the deviation from the SM due to the charged-Higgs effect is still sizable. In addition, the $q^2$-dependent $A^{pi,tau}_{FB}$ and $A^{D,tau}_{FB}$ can be very sensitive to the charged-Higgs effects and have completely different shapes from the SM.
